Update KB4054022 for Windows 10 Version 1709

Update KB4054022 is a servicing stack update for Windows 10 Fall Creators Update (Version 1709). This update makes stability improvements for the Windows 10 Version 1709 servicing stack. The update will be distributed via Windows Update, but is also available via Microsoft Update Catalog for manual download. There are no prerequisites for installing this update, and you don't have to restart the computer after you apply this update.

Servicing Stack Updates can't be uninstalled, because the uninstall button in Control Panel uninstall window has been removed. If such an update causes issues, use system restore – and blog the update reinstall (see How to block Windows 10 updates). In case system restore fails, see my blog post Uninstalling 'uninstallable' Windows Updates. But note: This should be a temporary workaround, because uninstalling a servicing stack update causes, that further updates can't be installed.

Update KB40552372 for Windows 10 Version 1709

Update KB40552372 (Compatibility update for upgrading to and recovering Windows 10 Version 1709: November 30, 2017) is a compatibility update. This update makes improvements to ease the upgrade and recovery experience to Windows 10 Version 1709. It's a dynamic update, which is distributed and installed only through Windows Update. There are no preconditions for installing this update. A restart is also not necessary.

Update KB4052342 for Windows 10 Version 1709

Update KB4052342 (Compatibility update for upgrading to Windows 10 Version 1709: November 30, 2017) is also a compatibility update. This dynamic update also changes the upgrade experience to Windows 10 Version 1709. There are no preconditions for installing this update. A restart is also not necessary.

As mentioned, updates KB40552372 and KB4052342 are dynamic updates, which are offered/provided during the installation and recovery process of a Windows 10 systems (see my blog post Windows 10: What are dynamic updates?). (via)

I've not seen any of these auto-deployed just yet – it was just KB4051963 that deployed last Friday.

I guess they will arrive either before or on Patch Tuesday, i.e. 12/12.

Actually, I can now see that KB4054022 has also been installed on 01/12 – but only shows up in 'Uninstall updates', not 'Update history'. Doh!

Please note my last paragraph: As mentioned, updates KB40552372 and KB4052342 are dynamic updates, which are offered/provided during the installation and recovery process of a Windows 10 systems.

This means: You never will see those updates under a regulary Windows 10. The updates may be downloaded during a reinstall, if you accept 'search for updates' in setup wizard.

The KB4054022 is shown in uninstall update list is crazy, do you have an uninstall button?

      • krzemien says:

Yes, I missed that one – and admittedly have only skimmed through dynamic updates article either… One needs to be alert all the time!
I've no idea whose marvellous mind have invented dynamic updates but this is just crazy. Just look at the mess with WU across Win7 now!

And of course: no, there's no uninstall option available there, obviously – but this did not surprise me as I've not seen it on other updates on 1607 earlier.
