Windows 7/8.1 Preview Rollup Updates (Juli 2018)

[English]Microsoft hat zum 18. Juli 2018 die Preview Rollups  KB4338821 für Windows 7 SP1 und KB4338831 für Windows 8.1 freigegeben. Hier eine Übersicht zu diesen Updates.

KB4338821 für Windows 7/Windows Server 2008 R2

Update KB4338821 (2018-07-18 Preview of Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems) steht für Windows 7 Service Pack 1 und Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 als Preview of Monthly Rollup bereit. Es handelt sich um kein Sicherheitsupdate. Das Preview Rollup enthält die Patches aus dem monatlichen Rollups und adressiert zudem folgende Probleme:

• Addresses additional issues with updated time zone information.
• Addresses an issue that may cause some devices running network monitoring workloads to receive the 0xD1 Stop error because of a race condition after installing the July update.
• Addresses an issue that may cause the restart of the SQL Server service to fail occasionally with the error, "Tcp port is already in use".
• Addresses an issue that occurs when an administrator tries to stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service (W3SVC). The W3SVC remains in a "stopping" state, but cannot fully stop or it cannot be restarted.

Mit Ausnahme der Zeitzonen-Aktualisierung fixt dieses Update die im Blog-Beitrag Windows 7/8.1: Update-Revisionen zum 16. Juli 2018 unter Update KB4345459 beschriebenen Fehler. Unterschied ist, dass Update KB4338821 jetzt als optionales Update per Windows Update und Microsoft Update Catalog verteilt wird, während Update KB4345459 nur im Update Catalog verfügbar war. Update KB4338821 hat leider den seit Monaten bekannten Bug, dass Software von Drittanbietern, die sich auf eine fehlende Datei (oem<number>.inf) bezieht, zum Ausfall des Netzwerk-Interface-Controller nach der Installation dieses Updates führt. Microsoft gibt als Workaround an, dass der Treiber im Geräte-Manager manuell über die Treibersuche nachinstalliert werden soll. Wer von den gefixten Bugs nicht betroffen ist, sollte das Update ausblenden.

KB4338831 für Windows 8.1/Windows Server 2012 R2

Update KB4338831, June 18, 2018, steht für Windows 8.1 und Windows Server 2012 R2 als Preview of Monthly Rollup bereit. Es handelt sich um kein Sicherheitsupdate. Das Preview Rollup adressiert folgende Probleme:

• Addresses additional issues with updated time zone information. 
• Addresses an issue that causes memory leaks until it becomes necessary to restart the system; for example, when using AppLocker to manage application usage. 
• Addresses an issue in which copying EFS-encrypted files from a client machine to a server share copies the files as encrypted instead of warning the user. 
• Addresses an issue that prevents printing on a 64-bit OS when 32-bit applications impersonate other users (typically by calling LogonUser). This issue occurs after installing monthly updates starting with KB4034681, released in August 2017. To resolve the issue for the affected applications, install this update, and then do one of the following:

• Use Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit to globally enable the Splwow64Compat App Compat Shim.
• Use the following registry setting, and then restart the 32-bit application:
  HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print Setting: Splwow64Compat
  Type: DWORDValue1: 1
     

1. Set the value to 0 for HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate.
2. Create the REG_DWORD item and set the value to 0 for HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\ddpsvc\Settings\DisableLastAccessUpdate.

• Addresses an issue that may cause some devices running network monitoring workloads to receive the 0xD1 Stop error because of a race condition after installing the July update.

Das Update ist optional und wird per Windows Update angeboten, kann aber auch per Microsoft Update Catalog heruntergeladen und installiert werden. Microsoft sind bisher keine Probleme mit dem Update bekannt.

Die in obiger Liste am Ende erwähnten drei letzte Fixes wurden durch das Revisions-Update KB4345424 bereits behoben (siehe Blog-Beitrag Windows 7/8.1: Update-Revisionen zum 16. Juli 2018). Falls die oben erwähnten Probleme nicht relevant sind, würde ich das Update ausblenden und auf das August 2018-Update warten.
