Musik zum Sonntag: De Phazz – The Mambo Craze

Plattenspieler mit LP, Word Record Store DayDen Titel "The Mambo Craze" hat wohl jeder meiner Blog-Leserinnen und -Leserinnen im Ohr. Leichter Mambo, irgendwo in Süd- oder Mittelamerika. Muss wohl eine Band aus Südamerika sein … von wegen, das Mädel (z.B. Pat Appleton) und die Kerle (z.B. Karl Frierson, und Gründer Pit Baumgartner) kommen aus Heidelberg und ich habe ihr Stück »The Mambo Craze« als Musik zum Sonntag mitgebracht.

DePhazz 1997 von Pit Baumgartner als offenes Bandprojekt gegründet. Der Name bzw. die Wortschöpfung „DePhazz" ist die Abkürzung für 'Destination Future Jazz'. Die Idee hinter dem Projekt war, dass jedes Album eine Reise zu einem anderen Musikplaneten bzw. -stil darstellen sollte.

Bekannt wurde DePhazz unter anderem durch ihren Radiohit The Mambo Craze (wurde mit Pat Appleton als Sängerin aufgenommen) aus ihrem zweiten Album Godsdog. DePhazz veröffentlichte seine Musik anfangs bei Mole Listening Pearls und wurde später bei Universal Music Classics & Jazz unter Vertrag genommen. Den Titel The Mambo Craze kann man auf YouTube abrufen. Viel Spaß beim Hören und schwelgen in Erinnerungen an die Karibik – und schönen Sonntag.
