Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14986 released in fast ring

Microsoft has released Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 14986 for desktop PCs in fast ring. This build comes with many new features and improvements.

The announcement has been made within the Microsoft blog. The new build is offered on my German test machine – but it took more than half an hour, until the progress bar indicates a download.

Windows 10 Update

This build is obviously a Redstore preview, as the name suggests. I suppose that some code for the new Universal Update Platform (UUP) has been included bereits berücksichtigt wurde (because MS haltet shipping Windows Insider Preview builds for a while, see my blog post Microsoft pauses Windows 10 Insider builds for PC).

What’s new in build 14986?

Beside many improvements and additions for asian users, Microsoft has added many new features to Windows 10.

  • Cortana: There are many improvements in Cortana, like Turn off your computer, change volume with voice commands. Also controlling iHeartRadio and TuneIn Radio has been added for US users. Cortana also supports sign-in using Azure Active Directory (AAD) identity.
  • Enterprise Cloud Printing: the new Enterprise Cloud Printers discovery UI under Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners will enable corporate users to discover corporate printers when on Azure Active Directory joined devices when the IT admin deploys and configures the backend services.
  • Windows Game Bar improved full-screen support: The Game Bar allows taking screen shots and videos in games. The new Game Bar supports a couple of games.

The are also several improvements in Windows ink, new extensions to Microsoft Edge (like Intels Intel TrueKey), an updates rendering technology for UWP apps, improvements in Narrator and a new Defender Dashboard. Details may be read within this MS blog post.
