Google Search infiltrated by Tech Support Scams

It seems that Google Search has been infiltrated again by Tech Support Scam. A security researcher has discoverd new malvertising campaign that is causing searches for the keyword "Lowes" to redirect a user to a tech support scam pages.

The security researcher has contacted Bleeping Computer, who reported here about that malware campaign. When users enters popular search terms such as Lowes and PayPal and click the resulting links, they have been redirected to tech support scams. It seems that Google's ad network have infiltrated again to redirect users to tech support scams pages  when they click on popular search terms.

Users clicking on search results are brought to a site that will determine based on various conditions whether the visitor will be redirected to Lowes.com or the tech support scam shown in the video below.

The exact condition for the redirect is still unknown. Bleeping Computer reported, that these tech support scams are more problematic for Firefox users, whose browsers will freeze up and be unable to close without killing the process. For Chrome users it is a bit easier to close the browser. More details may be found at Bleeping Computer.
