The following changes or bug fixes are listed in the Firefox release notes:

  • In version 70, Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) is activated by default on all platforms for the first time. This offers all Firefox users improved data protection before tracking through websites.
  • Enhanced Tracking Protection is designed to provide a Social tracking protection mechanism that prevents cross-site tracking via cookies from sites such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn.
  • A Privacy Protections report shows an overview with details of the trackers that Firefox has blocked. It provides consolidated reports from Monitor and Lockwise.

Firefox Lockwise, the tool for managing digital identities and passwords, is now supposed to offer more security.

  • With Lockwise for desktop, you can create, update and delete your logins and passwords to synchronize them on all your devices, including Lockwise Mobile Apps and Firefox Mobile Browser.
  • Firefox Monitor now has built-in security alerts to alert you when stored logins and passwords are compromised during online data breaches.
  • A complex password generation feature is designed to help create and store secure passwords for new online accounts.

An overview what's new may be found also at Mozilla's Blog. Furthermore, the developers have optimized the Firefox 70 and made improvements to the core engine. The JavaScritp Baseline Interpreter should be faster, the WebRenderer should be rolled out for more Windows users and the Compositor in Firefox for macOS should reduce the energy consumption. In addition, Firefox 70 has closed vulnerabilties. Some of them were classified as high. Details on further changes can be found here.
