Chrome[German]Google has released the update of Google Chrome to the 108 branch in the stable channel for Mac (108.0.5359.71), Linux (108.0.5359.71) and Windows (08.0.5359.71/72) on November 29, 2022. There are also updates for Android (108.0.5359.61) and iOS (108.0.5359.52). The 108 is a new development branch, but it also fixes bugs and vulnerabilities. werden.

Anchor Eufy Door Bell security cameras with vulnerabilities, data transferred to the cloud, Homebase 2 also has vulnerabilities

A security researcher has now found several security vulnerabilities in the firmware of the Eufy cameras. These transfer user images and facial recognition data to the cloud without the user's consent. The security researcher also claims to have accessed live camera images without any authentication. Eufy support has probably confirmed some of the issues. Furthermore, the Eufy Homebase 2 smart hub is vulnerable via three vulnerabilities and hackers could take over the device.

Edge 107.0.1418.62

EdgeMicrosoft has updated the Edge browser in the stable channel to version 107.0.1418.52 as of November 28, 2022. It is a security update that, according to the release notes, closes CVE-2022-4135 reported by the Chromium team. This is already being exploited in the wild.

Irish DPC fines Meta/Facebook €265 million after data privacy incident

[German]The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) has imposed a 265 million fine on Meta, Facebook's parent company. This follows a data protection incident in which millions of Facebook users' data was pulled from the company's systems via tools until September 2019. The Irish Data Protection Authority then launched a formal investigation in April 2021.

Dell, HP, Lenovo uses outdated OpenSSL versionen in UEFI

Sicherheit (Pexels, allgemeine Nutzung)[German]A firmware analysis by security vendor Binarly has revealed that devices from Dell, HP and Lenovo use outdated versions of the OpenSSL encryption library in their UEFI implementations. This poses a risk, as encryption could be broken and the update supply chain compromised. The outdated OpenSSL versions gets onto these machines through an EFI Development Kit (EDK). Currently, however, there doesn't seem to be a solution for how device manufacturers can get a handle on the problem of using up to three outdated (some dating back to 2014) OpenSSL versions even in updated UEFI firmware.

Does iCloud for Windows breaks video downloads and shows other people's photos

[German]There are isolated reports of users complaining that they are shown unknown photos and broken videos using Apple's iCloud for Windows. The assumption is that this content comes from other users' accounts. Affected users  use iCloud for Windows to download the videos or get photos from unknown sources displayed there.
