[German<\/a>]Maybe a really bad news for users of Surface Pro 3. It seems that some lots of those devices comes with a battery bug. The batteries degrades within weeks after the first year \u2013 just after the warranty is over. <\/p>\n

User Kridsada Thanabulpong has been using a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for a year. And shortly after the warranty expired, he noticed that the Surface Pro 3 can only last about 1-2 hours after a full charge. His first assumption was, that's a software fault (there has been several bugs in the past, draining the batteries of Surfaces). <\/p>\n

After disabling several background task with no improvements, he came about the command:<\/p>\n

If this command is executed within a command prompt window, it creates a detailed battery report as a HTML file (see the screenshot above and here<\/a>). And this battery report also contains the battery capacity left on the device. Here are a report showing the immediate graduation. <\/p>\n

Well, it could be one device coming with this kind of degradation. But the Microsoft Answers forum thread Surface Pro 3 battery degradation<\/a> has now many entries where other users also confirming this behavior. If I counted it right, there are more than 120 user posts yet. It seems that batteries from vendor SIMPLO are faulty. After the case rased up in an Akku-Gate<\/a> article, Microsoft has confirmed the issue in a comment published at WinSuperSite<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"We are aware of some customers reporting a scenario with their Surface Pro 3 batteries in which the system is reporting lower battery capacity than expected. This is a top priority for our team, and we are working quickly to understand the root cause. If you are experiencing this scenario, please contact Microsoft customer support.\"<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Let's hope, Microsoft will find the root cause and helps users affected. The problem \u2013 in my view \u2013 is the worse repair index (1 of 10), given by iFixit<\/a>. This means, if Microsoft exchanges broken Surface Pro 3 devices, the old one will be dumped as \"non reparable electronic\" into trash.
