The compatibility wizard reports a blocking app, but doesn't provide additional details or an app name.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ssl-vg03.met.vgwort.de\/na\/aef9cabea7b14a299e06c1be3dc3167a\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>Updating to Windows 10 Anniversary Update is a kind of upgrade. Therefore the installer runs a compatibility test and reports show stopper like incompatible hardware or apps. Below is a screenshot of such a result page (unfortunately I have a German version only).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Windows 10 Upgrade Assistent Fehler\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180703210610\/https:\/\/f01.imgup.net\/Win10Ver16f42e.jpg\" alt=\"Windows 10 Upgrade Assistent Fehler\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The user is notified, that an app has compatibility issues and shall be uninstalled manually. But the name of the app is missing \u2013 and no further information is given. All a user can do: Press <em>Windows+X <\/em>on a keyboard and select <em>Control Panel <\/em>in Quick Launch menu. The select <em>Remove programs <\/em>and try to find the incompatible app in <em>add\/remove<\/em> window.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Programm deinstallieren\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200516113207\/https:\/\/f26.imgup.net\/Uninstall07da1.jpg\" alt=\"Programm deinstallieren\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I was stumbling upon 3 cases (<a href=\"http:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/de-de\/windows\/forum\/windows_10-update\/anniversary-update-problem-mit-angeblich\/53e4c833-5ce6-4c1e-955b-352e5d06c165\">here<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/de-de\/windows\/forum\/windows_10-update\/windows-10-anniversary-update-nicht-m%C3%B6glich\/020ddc05-807c-4613-8690-19f69e5ce8e7#LastReply\">here)<\/a> in German Microsoft Answers forum, where an installed Virtual PC Version (2007) was the root cause for the warning given above. In some case it was install fragments remained on a machine after uninstalling Virtual PC. In this case, Revo Uninstaller did the clean job. This approach has also mentioned <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/Windows10\/comments\/3jpwsz\/windows_10_setup_you_must_remove_virtual_pc_2007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a> at reddit.com.<\/p>\n<h3>Have a look at the log files<\/h3>\n<p>If the hints given above doesn't help, it's possible to analyze the log files. Microsoft has released <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/kb\/928901\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KB article 928901<\/a>\u00a0documenting the files left from setup (thx to blog reader Thomas W., who has posted this hints in my German blog). Here are the steps t check for unknown modules.<\/p>\n<p>1. Navigate to hidden folder <em>C:\\$WINDOWS.~BT\\Sources\\Panther.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>2. Search for the newest file *_<em>APPRAISER_HumanReadable.xml<\/em> (the * stands for characters like z.B.<em>1y7jlkfj\u00f6salkf\u00f6a_APPRAISER_HumanReadable.xml<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>2. Open this xml file in Internet Explorer 11 (double click) or in notepad.exe.<\/p>\n<p>3. Search the xml structure for the following hints.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200516113205\/https:\/\/l15.imgup.net\/XML7892.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20200516113205\/https:\/\/l15.imgup.net\/XML7892.jpg\" width=\"650\" height=\"439\" \/>(Source: German MS Answers forum )<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The xml node\u00a0<em>PropertyList<\/em> with type <em>\"Decision Maker\"<\/em> should contain a character string:<\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;Property Name=\"DT_ANY_FMC_BlockingApplication\" Value=\"TRUE\" Ordinal=\"1\u2033 \/&gt;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The entry\u00a0\"Asset\" above contains<\/p>\n<p><em>&lt;PropertyList Type=Inventory\"&gt;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The property name <em>LowerCaseLongPath<\/em>\u00a0contains the path to the blocking app.<\/p>\n<p>4.
