[German<\/a>]On December 10, 2019, Microsoft again incorrectly distributed the AutoPilot update KB4532441 to systems running Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903) and Windows 10 November 2019 Update (version 1909) via Windows Update. The patch now has been pulled. <\/p>\n

\"\"Users of Windows 10 Version 1909 and Version 1903 might have been astonished again. They were offered an AutoPilot update KB4532441 for installation. Windows AutoPilot<\/a> is a collection of technologies for setting up and pre-configuring new devices. Administrators can also use Windows Autopilot to reset, reuse, and restore devices.<\/p>\n

AutoPilot Update KB4532441<\/h2>\n

Cumulative Update KB4532441<\/a> (Cumulative update for Autopilot in Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909: December 10, 2019) is supposed to make quality improvements at the devices configured by Windows Autopilot according to the Microsoft support contribution. The component enables organizations to easily deploy devices. <\/p>\n

The KB article, Microsoft lists a number of improvements that the update provides for the AutoPilot application. This update only makes sense in Windows 10 environments of companies that manage their devices through AutoPilot.<\/p>\n

Update distributed incorrectly and pulled<\/h2>\n

Shortly after this update was released, there were reports that the update was offered for Windows 10 Version 1903\/1909 (see here<\/a> and here<\/a>). However, users with Windows 10 Home or Pro should never see it in environments not managed by AutoPilot. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile Microsoft has withdrawn this update. The reason: At some point it was discovered that the patch was not delivered correctly to affected machines. Quote from KB4532441<\/a>:<\/p>\n

This update was available through Windows Update. However, we have removed it because it was being offered incorrectly. When an organization registers or configures a device for Windows Autopilot deployment, the device setup automatically updates Windows Autopilot to the latest version.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

So the update has been distributed wrong again. We already had this incident in October 2019 (see Windows 10 V1903: AutoPilot-Update KB4523786<\/a>). After all, Microsoft writes that the installation has no consequences: <\/p>\n

There is no effect on Windows Autopilot being offered to Windows 10 devices. If you were offered this update and do not use Autopilot, installing this update will not affect you. Windows Autopilot update should not be offered to Windows 10 Home.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

But somehow Microsoft doesn't really have the distribution of its updates under control, especially since the article on KB4532441<\/a> say: As soon as a device is included in the management by AutoPilot, it should be automatically updated to the latest version during setup.  <\/p>\n

Win10 1909 Pro customers reporting that they're being offered the AutoPilot patch, KB 4532441, even if they don't have AutoPilot. Wonder if we'll see a reprise of the October debacle where MS accidentally pushed the AutoPilot patch, then yanked it? https:\/\/t.co\/Ir0CtFCyoQ<\/a><\/p>\n
