Apparently the problem has been noticed in several places. There is <a href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/protect\/forum\/all\/windows-defender-items-skipped-during-scan\/7b2bdd94-fd8c-48ae-ae68-4ddd854ce597?page=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this Microsoft Answers forum<\/a> post from March 10, 2020, where the problem is described.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>Windows Defender, \"Items Skipped During Scan\"<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I keep getting this notification after quick scans, \"Windows Defender skipped an item due to exclusions or network protection settings.\"<\/p>\n<p>To make this clear: I don't have ANY exclusions, and as far as I'm aware, I haven't changed my network protection settings in the past.<\/p>\n<p>What's going on? Is this malware, or a bug with the new update? How do I fix this? I want to be reassured that I'm safe, this isn't very reassuring.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This forum post now contains answers over 4 pages, and someone has posted the relevant message as a screenshot.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Defender: Items skipped during scan\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/yFiLU5R.jpg\" alt=\"Defender: Items skipped during scan\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Details of which item is skipped are missing. Within t<a href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/forum\/all\/windows-security-skipped-1-file-how-can-i-see-what\/4a1a83f0-61f3-4d18-b1a0-07c52a721600?tm=1583850968640\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">his forum thread<\/a> a user asks how to determine what is skipped, but still no answer. On reddit.com there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/techsupport\/comments\/fgalvt\/windows_defender_skipping_files_yet_no_exclusions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this post<\/a>, where many users have also noticed this behaviour. People also say that they have not set any exclusion criteria.<\/p>\n<h2>Problem exists since mid March 2020<\/h2>\n<p>Within <a href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/es-es\/windows\/forum\/all\/elementos-omitidos-durante-el-examen-de-windows\/6a362d99-c2a5-4eb4-9414-bf75282e156d\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this Spanish language MS Answers forum post<\/a> somebody states that the message first appeared after the installation of the March 11, 2020 update. He mentioned the Defender Platform 4.18.2003.5 there. On tenforums.com you can find <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tenforums.com\/antivirus-firewalls-system-security\/152000-new-defender-platform-4-18-2003-4-0-items-skipped-during-scan-alert.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this thread<\/a> where the bug with the Defender Platform 4.18.2003.4-0 is reported. There the user states that he has not made any changes &#8211; not even to the network. Currently we have Defender Platform 4.18.2003.6, but still many users who claiming this issue.<\/p>\n<p>Currently it seems to me that a false alarm is triggered by a bug in Windows Defender. A solution has not been found yet. Any of you affected?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Addendum:<\/strong> There is a workaround to avoid the message.
