Tero Alhonen has addressed this in the following Tweet.

Microsoft will continue to support Microsoft Edge on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 until July 15, 2021 https://t.co/2Fn2OMNdOJ pic.twitter.com/oKCDdroSF4

— Tero Alhonen (@teroalhonen) April 11, 2020

Microsoft plans to support the Microsoft Edge on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 by July 15, 2021. But this is not really a surprise, since Google has announced this date for support for its Chrome browser for quite some time (see Chrome support for Windows 7 until at least mid 2021). For Windows 10 versions that have also been supported, Microsoft recommends that you upgrade to a newer Windows 10 build. For macOS, there is only support for Sierra 10.12 and up. For Android, support is available for Android 4.4 and above, and for iOS from version 11 and above.

Update-Error 0x80040154

The colleagues from desmodder.de point out here

that users of Microsoft Edge Canary Build 84.0.481.0 get the error code 0x80040154 when calling the update function.
