Upgrade blocker for Surfaces removed?<\/h2>\n

\"\"Users of Windows 10 on Microsoft Surface devices currently find that they do not get the Windows 10 May 2020 Update (Version 2004) while waiting for the function update. Microsoft has put an upgrade stop simply because of compatibility issues.<\/p>\n

This is because the Always On, Always Connected mode of operation caused errors and spontaneous restarts on some devices. This also affected Microsoft's Surface devices. Here is the error description from the Windows 10 Version 2004 status page<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A few days ago, I announced in the blog post Windows 10 V2004: Upgrade lock for Surfaces removed<\/a>, that the surface upgrade lock, Microsoft has set, had been removed. Of course this information had officially announced by Microsoft.<\/p>\n

Correction: Some things take a bit longer with MS<\/h2>\n

Subsequently, it turned out that the above information about the release of the Windows 10 Version 2004 function update was a lot of noise and smoke. In the english blog post<\/a>, EP contacted me several times (thanks for that). In the comment here<\/a> she\/he points out that there still upgrade issues.<\/p>\n

I saw this following statement quoted from this ZDNet article:

The Surface Laptop 3 was still blocked, and on July 7, 2020 Mary Foley writes that the upgrade block is still in place. This has since been picked up by other media such as askwoody.com<\/a> – at the end of last week, the feature update to the Windows 10 May 2020 Update (version 2004) was still blocked for some Surface models.<\/p>\n

Mary Foley has summarized it again in this ZDNet article<\/a>. Microsoft has quietly revised its status information<\/a> announcing the fix by KB4557957<\/a> dated June 9, 2020 to July 8, 2020. You can now find the note:<\/p>\n

Please note, if there are no other safeguards that affect your device, it can take up to 48 hours before the update to Windows 10, version 2004 is offered.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

It's unbelievable what Microsoft is doing – even on their own stuff, the latest product a la Windows 10 version 2004 doesn't run. Well, in exceptional cases something can jam from time to time. I could even understand that. But these exceptional cases are the rule in the meantime. If there was still some proof needed that Microsoft has driven Windows 10 with its as a service concept hard to the wall, that was just provided.<\/p>\n
