It is a new main version of the e-mail client, which also corrects some errors.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/vg04.met.vgwort.de\/na\/2a34d5ae24634f788506ab8630de4b5c\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\">The reference to the new version came already from Nook in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borncity.com\/blog\/2020\/07\/01\/thunderbird-68-10-0-freigegeben\/#comment-92152\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this German comment<\/a> (thanks for that). Of course I tested immediately, and was not offered a new version. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thunderbird.net\/en-US\/thunderbird\/78.0\/releasenotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">release notes<\/a>, Thunderbird 78 is not offered as an update. In the client there are the following new features and fixes for the new Thunderbird version:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>New Account Hub for centralized account setup\n<li>Redesigned recipient address fields (To, Cc, Bcc) as single-line input fields (pills) for multiple addresses instead of one line per address. <em>More improvements to come.<\/em>\n<li>Color customization of Folder Pane icons\n<li>Allow selecting messages via selection boxes instead of classic selection. \"Select Messages\" column needs to be selected via the thread pane's column picker.\n<li>\"Delete\" action column in thread pane (message list). \"Select Messages\" column needs to be selected via the thread pane's column picker.\n<li>Themes can be previewed in the Add-On Manager\n<li>Minimize to tray support added for Windows\n<li>New config option to anonymize message date header\n<li>Global Search menu item in app menu\n<li>Additional Enterprise policies\n<li>Calendar: Added ICS import support to -file command line option\n<li>Calendar: Add event preview to ICS import dialog\n<li>Chat: OTR messaging support\n<li>Chat: IRC echo-message capability<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h5><\/h5>\n<p>ghacks.net has <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20220522041107\/https:\/\/www.ghacks.net\/2020\/07\/16\/a-look-at-some-of-the-changes-in-thunderbird-78\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this article<\/a> about the new Thunderbird. There are also this changes in Thunderbird 78:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Add-on support: As of version 78.0, Thunderbird only supports MailExtensions and MailExtension Experiments. Restartless add-ons and non-restartless legacy add-ons using XUL overlays are no longer supported.\n<li>Linux minimum runtime requirements have changed: GTK 3.14, GLIBC 2.17, libstdc++ 4.8.1 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thunderbird.net\/en-US\/thunderbird\/78.0\/system-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details<\/a>\n<li>Thunderbird Options\/Preferences tab redesigned and with new user interface\n<li>Account creation dialog redesigned and with new user interface\n<li>Account Manager moved to a tab\n<li>Add-ons manager with new user interface and notifications\n<li>Improved \"Recent\" folder list for \"Move to\" and \"Copy to\" in message context menu\n<li>Improved UI of global search results tab\n<li>Improvements to the location bar of a tab displaying web pages\n<li>Use scalable icons throughout Thunderbird to improve support for HiDPI monitors and dark mode\n<li>Thunderbird will now ask for OS account password before displaying saved passwords\n<li>Address books are now stored as SQLite databases to prepare for future addressbook improvements. Existing address books in MAB format (using a Mork database) will be converted.\n<li>New parser and formatter for vCard. vCard versions 3.0 and 4.0 are now supported.\n<li>Various theme and dark mode improvements\n<li>Various look and feel improvements\n<li>Improved dialog for folder compaction (purging of deleted messages)\n<li>Graphics hardware acceleration is now enabled by default\n<li>TLS 1.0 and 1.1 disabled\n<li>Calendar: The Lightning calendar add-on is now integrated into Thunderbird\n<li>Calendar: Lightning version removed from Thunderbird user agent string\n<li>Calendar: Web Calendar Access Protocol (WCAP) support removed\n<li>Calendar: Storage access is now asynchronous to improve performance\n<li>Calendar: Location URLs are now clickable\n<li>Addon Developers: Updates to and expansion of MailExtensions APIs. <a href=\"https:\/\/developer.thunderbird.net\/add-ons\/updating\/tb78\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Details<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are also the changes described with FIXED, where bugs were corrected.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Password display font had characters that were difficult to read\n<li>When copying messages from an IMAP folder to a local folder, offline store wasn't used\n<li>While Thunderbird was in safe mode, the help menu did not offer an item to restart with add-ons enabled\n<li>Mailbox quotas not displayed correctly\n<li>Images not rotated when composing a message\n<li>Email addresses sometimes displayed incorrectly in message composer\n<li>Many accessibility fixes and improvements: message composer, account setup, attachment pane\n<li>Mailbox format conversion fixes\n<li>Address book improvements: exporting, editing contacts, contact photos\n<li>Chat: Renaming contacts in context menu did not work\n<li>Calendar: Task and event dialogs were sometimes too small for their content\n<li>Calendar: URLs in the event reminder dialog were not clickable<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The developers of Thunderbird also claim to have made various <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/en-US\/security\/known-vulnerabilities\/thunderbird\/#thunderbird78.0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">security fixes<\/a>. The following is a list of known problems that have not been fixed:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mail header toolbar (Reply, Forward, Archive, Junk buttons) no longer configurable\n<li>Preferences search not available\n<li>Drag and drop of address book contacts not working in some situations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All in all a big update for the e-mail client Thunderbird. . <\/p>\n<h2>System requirements<\/h2>\n<p>The system requirements for the different operating system versions (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thunderbird.net\/en-US\/thunderbird\/78.0\/system-requirements\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also<\/a>):  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 oder h\u00f6her\n<li>Mac: Mac OS X 10.9 oder h\u00f6her\n<li>Linux: GTK+ 3.4 oder h\u00f6her<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The download is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thunderbird.net\/de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.
