There are cases where the client needs up to one minute to start. Or there are crashes when certain pop mails are deleted. Here is a short overview of the situation.

Users of Microsoft Outlook do not have an easy time with the mail client Outlook. In mid-July 2020 I had already reported in the blog post Outlook crashes with Error 0xc0000005, Workaround/Fix about a problem with the program.

Crash when deleting mails

However, on 15 July 2020, Microsoft probably confirmed another error in Outlook. The support article in question contains the title Outlook crashes deleting three or more emails from a POP account with Download Headers Only and actually describes the issue. After upgrading to Outlook Version 2006 Build 13001.20266 and higher, Outlook crashes when deleting three or more emails from a POP account with Download Headers Only. In the Windows Event Viewer application log you can see the following event details:

Faulting application name: OUTLOOK.EXE, version: 16.0.13102.20002, time stamp: 0x5efe7a9e
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.19041.207, time stamp: 0xcad89ab4
Exception code: 0xc0000409
Fault offset: 0x000000000008b48f
Faulting process id: 0x5748
Faulting application start time: 0x01d65a1988bf274f
Faulting application path: C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\root\\Office16\\OUTLOOK.EXE
Faulting module path: C:\\WINDOWS\\SYSTEM32
tdll.dll

According to the support article, the current status of this error is that Microsoft is investigating the cause. The same workaround as in the blog post Outlook crashes with Error 0xc0000005, Workaround/Fix , namely an update to version 16.0.12827.20470. (via)

Outlook startup takes 1 minute

And there are users who are annoyed by another bug. Outlook needs up to one minute longer to start under Windows 10. Bleeping Computer mentioned it here. There is also this Microsoft support article from July 20, 2020. In the article Unexpected one-minute startup of Outlook if UE-V is enabled Microsoft already mentions the cause: User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) causes trouble when:

Outlook 2019 or Outlook 2016 is on a computer that is running Windows 10, version 1809 or a later version of Windows

Users install a cumulative update for Windows 10 that was released after March 17, 2020

Users deploy User Experience Virtualization (UE-V) with the synchronization method set to None.

And the user registers the MicrosoftOutlook2016CAWinXX.xml UE-V template (for example, MicrosoftOutlook2016CAWin32.xml).

If these requirements are met, it can take one minute to start Outlook. During this time the Outlook splash screen is displayed. The cause is a UE-V-Sync method set to None that causes Windows to ignore the synchronization timeout (two seconds by default). Therefore the UE-V timeout is exceeded after one minute.

The workaround is to use the default synchronization method SyncProvider. If this is not possible, Microsoft specifies another workaround in the KB article. It is always a pleasure to see how reliable this Office stuff is and how quickly the developers react when an Office as a service update derails at the user's site. I'm thrilled, but I'm still using Thunderbird as my mail client.

[German]Currently, users of Outlook complain about various errors in the software.
