Microsoft seems to have found the cause and is now testing a fix with Windows Insiders for its effectiveness. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>What exactly is the problem?<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/vg08.met.vgwort.de\/na\/9cb927877c0343708f605b8579c6d498\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\">Microsofts Surface Laptop 3 has problems with Windows 10 Version 2004. In my blog post <a href=\"https:\/\/borncity.com\/win\/2020\/07\/13\/windows-10-v2004-weiter-auf-surface-blockiert\/\">Windows 10 V2004 still blocked on some Surfaces<\/a> from mid-July 2020 I mentioned, that Microsoft has set an upgrade blocker for the devices. One of the reasons:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>On some devices the Always On, Always Connected mode caused errors and spontaneous reboots. This also affected Microsoft's Surface devices. Here is the error description from the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210208070747\/https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/release-information\/status-windows-10-2004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Windows 10 Version 2004 status page<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>On Microsoft Answers, a user posted <a href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/surface\/forum\/surflaptop3-surfperf\/surface-laptop-3-restarting-randomly\/ac9ed7f2-72b1-4d83-8f2f-9a997c71313c?messageId=c4f40c02-c850-40f9-b1fb-9c29f3afdca6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the following error description<\/a> in the Surface forum. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Surface Laptop 3 Restarting Randomly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I have the power settings set to NOT restart when the power is plugged in and NOT to go into sleep mode.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>Even with these settings the laptop restarts randomly. I'll be writing code and it restarts. Its random.  <\/p>\n<p>Surface Laptop 3 15\"  <\/p>\n<p>AMD Ryzen 7 Microsoft Surface Edition 2.30 GHz  <\/p>\n<p>16.0 GB RAM<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Exactly the bug described above, which probably occurs in various surface models.   <\/p>\n<h2>Microsoft is testing a fix with Insiders <\/h2>\n<p>Within the following tweet Barb Bowman pointed out that Microsoft is now testing a fix with Windows Insiders. <\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">9 months after <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/surface?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@surface<\/a> laptop 3 owners reported random restarts <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Dg1ddW8T7R\">https:\/\/t.co\/Dg1ddW8T7R<\/a> , Microsoft is testing a fix in Insiders rings <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qCeEXFkSbv\">https:\/\/t.co\/qCeEXFkSbv<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Barb Bowman  (@barbbowman) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/barbbowman\/status\/1297563690208825346?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">August 23, 2020<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script> <\/p>\n<p>The Tweet refers to <a href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/surface\/forum\/surflaptop3-surfperf\/surface-laptop-3-restarting-randomly\/ac9ed7f2-72b1-4d83-8f2f-9a997c71313c?messageId=c4f40c02-c850-40f9-b1fb-9c29f3afdca6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this Microsoft Answers forum thread<\/a> with the above error description with the spontaneous restarts of the Surface Laptop 3 devices. A moderator writes about this.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Thank you for reporting the issue. We have improved device stability with an update that is currently available through our Windows Insider Program.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p>To join the Windows Insider Program go to Settings &gt; Update &amp; Security &gt; Windows Insider Program and select Get Started. You will need to provide a Microsoft Account and when prompted choose Release Preview (<a href=\"https:\/\/insider.windows.com\/understand-flighting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">learn more about Insider channels<\/a>). Selecting Release Preview will keep you on the current public release of Windows but provide you the latest Surface updates before they are more broadly available.
