In addition, Microsoft has admitted further issues with Windows 10 Version 2004 at the end of August 2020 and has set an upgrade blocker for devices with WWAN LTE modems.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>August 2020 updates causes BSODs <\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/vg08.met.vgwort.de\/na\/973c06212b814de68c8334bbb4d03ff2\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\">In the Lenovo Forum there is a post <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.lenovo.com\/t5\/ThinkPad-X-Series-Laptops\/Win10-2004-KB4566782-breaks-Intel-ME-causes-Vantage-BSoD\/m-p\/5035062?page=1#5125576\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Win10 2004 KB4566782 breaks Intel ME, causes Vantage BSoD<\/a> vom from August 24, 2020 which reports issues with the August 2020 update KB4566782 on Windows 10 version 2004 machines. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Launching Lenovo Vantage results in a BSoD within a few seconds after the loading animation completes.&nbsp; This is 100% reproducible.&nbsp; The BSoD is always \"SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED\", and most of the time, it implicates <em>ldiagio.s<\/em>ys.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lenovo's advice In this forum thread is to uninstall the update KB4566782 &#8211; and someone refers to <a href=\"https:\/\/pcsupport.lenovo.com\/ca\/en\/products\/laptops-and-netbooks\/thinkpad-x-series-laptops\/thinkpad-x1-carbon-7th-gen-type-20r1-20r2\/solutions\/HT511000-PROBLEMS-CAUSED-BY-ENHANCED-WINDOWS-BIOMETRIC-SECURITY-BIOS-SETTING-THINKPAD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this tip from Lenovo support<\/a> confirming issues with August 2020 update for Lenovo Thinkpads with Windows 10 version 2004.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>After installing the August 2020 cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 2004, users may notice one or more of the following symptoms:  <\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) when booting\n<li>Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) when starting Lenovo Vantage\n<li>Blue Screen of Death (BSoD) when running Windows Defender Scan\n<li>Can't login by Face with Windows Hello\n<li>Errors in Device Manager related to Intel Management Engine\n<li>Errors in Device Manager related to IR Camera<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Applicable Systems: ThinkPad models from 2019 and 2020<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The support suggests to disable the visual settings (Enhanced Windows Biometric Security settings in BIOS Setup -&gt; Security -&gt; Virtualization). . <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>At Bleeping Computer there is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/microsoft\/windows-10-updates-health-report-kb4566782-and-kb4565351\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this post<\/a> about issues caused by August 2020 updates (reported on Reddit). These issues are caused by incompatible drivers that collide with the virtualization features of Windows 10 (see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/microsoft\/lenovo-warns-of-windows-10-2004-crashing-thinkpad-laptops\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">also<\/a>). MSPU refers in <a href=\"https:\/\/mspoweruser.com\/lenovo-warns-the-windows-10-august-2020-update-can-cause-bsod\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this article<\/a> to <a href=\"https:\/\/pcsupport.lenovo.com\/ca\/en\/products\/laptops-and-netbooks\/thinkpad-x-series-laptops\/thinkpad-x1-carbon-7th-gen-type-20r1-20r2\/solutions\/HT511000-PROBLEMS-CAUSED-BY-ENHANCED-WINDOWS-BIOMETRIC-SECURITY-BIOS-SETTING-THINKPAD\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this Lenovo support article<\/a> which confirms the issue. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Windows 10 2004: Upgrade blocked on devices with WWAN LTE modems<\/h2>\n<p>On the <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20210208070747\/https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/release-information\/status-windows-10-2004\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Windows 10 Version 2004 status page<\/a>, Microsoft has not only confirmed issues with the Microsoft IME (Input Mode Editor) for Japanese or Chinese language as of August 31, 2020. They also set an upgrade block for devices with WWAN LTE modems. They wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><b>Certain WWAN LTE modems might not be able to connect after waking from sleep<\/b>  <\/p>\n<p>After waking from sleep or hibernation, certain WWAN LTE modems might show no internet in the Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) in the notification area and might be unable to connect to the internet.  <\/p>\n<p>To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on Windows 10 devices with affected WWAN LTE modems drivers installed from being offered Windows 10, version 2004 until the issue has been resolved. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>This affects Windows 10 2004 clients. As a workaround, Microsoft suggests to briefly enable and disable the aircraft mode on Windows 10 version 2004 machines.
