The cause of this bug is unknown so far, but the Google developers have at least admitted that the bug is known. Besides, a fix is supposed to be coming.

The Battery Indicator Bug

Actually, the battery display of a smartphone should always show the correct charge level of the battery. Otherwise, it is never possible to tell whether the device battery is empty or 100 full after a charging process. Google Pixel 5 has a problem with this function – occasionally the device displays house numbers there. This Google forum entry from October 25, 2020 describes the situation:

Pixel 5 battery getting stuck at random numbers

Hi,

I have been using the Pixel 5 for just 2 days and today I observed that my battery percentage got stuck while charging at 67% and plugging it again and restarting fixed it. Later on after a full charge, it was stuck at 100%. After multiple restarts it started showing the right value again. This keeps happening at times. Contacted the support and waiting for response. Anyone with similar issue? :\\

The affected person says , the battery indicator stops at 67%. Restarts the device only solve the problems temporarily. This error is then confirmed by other users, although there are funny things. One user writes:

I've been having the same issue. Not so much on the discharging but on the charging. Today is an example, I plugged it in around 19%, I checked it later it was at 29% and then I went for a walk, left the phone on the charger. I came back 30 minutes later and it said 35%… Huh? Even after unplugging it did not change. I restarted the phone and it showed 92% when it started. Obviously something going on.

The battery incicator value of the affected person jumps back and forth between any values.

The developers are aware if the issue

Based on these forum posts, a Google employee (ScottG_TC) confirmed that the problem was known and was being worked on.

The team is aware of this issue and a fix will be rolling out soon in a future Android update. Your battery is charging, but the indicator may be stuck. If you restart your phone and plug it into the charger again, the battery level should quickly rise to the correct level.

So let's see, when the bug will be fixed by an update.
