Since October 20, 2020, users have been reporting and complaining that their network printers are offline under Windows. In the meantime, Malwarebytes has released a beta version with a correction that should fix the problem. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Thread in the Malwarebytes forum<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/vg06.met.vgwort.de\/na\/b103796dba1e4e5da9bf718ee4717af1\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\">In the Malwarebytes forum there is <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.malwarebytes.com\/topic\/265290-malwarebytes-blocks-network-printer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this 4-page thread<\/a>, where the thread starter complains about a problem with his network printer on October 20, 2020. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Malwarebytes is blocking my network printer that is configured on a TCP\/IP port.&nbsp; Printer is a Ricoh IM C4500  <\/p>\n<p>When I print, printer is shown as offline.&nbsp; I exit Malwarebytes, it prints.  <\/p>\n<p>I just tried to narrow it down and I turned off in this order web protection, malware, ransomware, exploit.&nbsp; Printer did not go back online until exploit (so all 4 was off).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The affected person was able to trace the problem directly back to malware bytes. In the Malwarebytes forum I <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.malwarebytes.com\/topic\/265357-web-protection-takes-printers-off-line\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">found this entry<\/a> from October 20, 2020, where the Web Protection service is held responsible as the cause. In <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.malwarebytes.com\/topic\/265290-malwarebytes-blocks-network-printer\/?do=findComment&amp;comment=1417855\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this forum thread<\/a> a support employee gives the tip to stop the Web Protection via context menu and then print it.  <\/p>\n<h2>Patch as Beta available <\/h2>\n<p>As of November 5, 2020 I found <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.malwarebytes.com\/topic\/265290-malwarebytes-blocks-network-printer\/?do=findComment&amp;comment=1418644\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this post<\/a> in the forum. There is supposed to be a beta version of Malwarebytes which fixed the problem for the user in question. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.malwarebytes.com\/topic\/265290-malwarebytes-blocks-network-printer\/?do=findComment&amp;comment=1418758\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this Malwarebytes support post<\/a>, there is an update to the Web Protection support module. In the thread there was <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.malwarebytes.com\/topic\/265290-malwarebytes-blocks-network-printer\/?do=findComment&amp;comment=1419882\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a another hint<\/a> that the beta update for Malwarebyte version 4.2.3.96 with the component package 1.0.1112 should finally fix the issue (the 4.2.3.95 probably still had problems).&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/content.invisioncic.com\/Mmalware\/monthly_2020_11\/2020-11-11_10h42_32.png.13ea17f01669895ee293f72171ac1047.png\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Malwarebytes-Update f&uuml;r Druckerprobleme\" alt=\"Malwarebytes-Update f&uuml;r Druckerprobleme\" src=\"https:\/\/content.invisioncic.com\/Mmalware\/monthly_2020_11\/2020-11-11_10h42_32.png.13ea17f01669895ee293f72171ac1047.png\" width=\"640\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"https:\/\/forums.malwarebytes.com\/topic\/262752-malwarebytes-42-beta\/?tab=comments#comment-1420160\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">announcement here<\/a> I haven't read about this fix yet. But the colleagues from Bleeping Computer state <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bleepingcomputer.com\/news\/software\/malwarebytes-is-kicking-windows-printers-offline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">in this article<\/a> that the beta update fixes the problem with the offline network printers. In the article there are also hints how to get this beta update installed. Anyone of you affected?
