Google wants to support the browser with security updates until January 2022.

The facts: Windows 7 SP1 has fallen out of support for the mass of users since January 14, 2020. Only who buys a ESU license (or works with tricks), still gets security updates for the system. This end of support also means that software vendors will gradually discontinue support for Windows 7 as of January 14, 2020. Many programs will continue to run on Windows 7, but browsers and email clients may eventually become difficult to use when there are no more updates. At the latest when a browser that is no longer updated no longer provides support for required web standards, the user will be left out.

Although Google assumes that companies will migrate to Windows 10 sooner or later, it writes that this could be a tricky process and take longer. With this in mind, Google originally promised to support Google Chrome until summer 2021 (until at least July 15, 2021). Then they wanted to look again at Windows 7 usage. I had covered this in the blog post Chrome support for Windows 7 until at least mid 2021.

Windows 7 usage, Source Kantar

Now Windows 7 SP1 is still heavily used by companies – I once stated around 20%. Kantar states in the picture above that 21% of the companies are still busy with the migration. In this blog post Google writes that they want to continue to support companies that are still using Windows 7. Therefore the support of Chrome on Windows 7 SP1 will continue until January 15, 2022.

[German]Good news for users of Windows 7 SP1 who use the Google browser Chrome.
