This is because there is a vulnerability that allows files to be read without authentication.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>It's a somewhat crude issue that was brought to my attention via <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wugeej\/status\/1346337335311384577\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>. There is an Unauthenticated Arbitrary File Read vulnerability in VMware vCenter prior to 6.5u1, but no CVE has been assigned.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Unauthenticated Arbitrary File Read in VMware vCenter\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/VdeJ65Q.png\" alt=\"Unauthenticated Arbitrary File Read in VMware vCenter\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Using the password hints in the above tweet, an attacker can gain read access to files. The tweet is quite recent, but I checked the web. This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/blueteamsec\/comments\/jaz5au\/unauthenticated_arbitrary_file_read_vulnerability\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reddit.com post<\/a> is two months as and probably describes exactly the same issue published by @ptswarm <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ptswarm\/status\/1316016337550938122\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">on Twitter<\/a> in October 2020.
