This is a security update that fixes vulnerabilities, but also aims to fix bugs. <\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>German blog reader Gerold pointed out this update in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borncity.com\/blog\/2021\/01\/27\/firefox-85-0-0-und-78-7-0-esr-verfgbar\/#comment-100548\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this comment<\/a> a few hours ago &#8211; thanks for that.&nbsp; Here's a quick overview of the fixes.<\/p>\n<h2>Firefox 85.0.1<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/vg04.met.vgwort.de\/na\/1407208c63814afba1117c16f297636f\" width=\"1\">According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/en-US\/firefox\/85.0.1\/releasenotes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">release notes<\/a> of version 85.0.1, the update closes a vulnerability <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/en-US\/security\/advisories\/mfsa2021-06\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rated as critical<\/a> (a buffer overflow in depth raster calculations for compressed textures). Interestingly, in Firefox 85.0.1 the Mozilla developers have addressed the issue I raised in the blog post <a href=\"https:\/\/borncity.com\/win\/2021\/01\/15\/windows-10-schwachstelle-ermglicht-ntfs-medieninhalte-zu-zerstren\/\">Windows 10: Vulnerability allows to destroy NTFS media content<\/a>. Here is the list of bug fixes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prevent access to NTFS special paths that could lead to filesystem corruption.<\/li>\n<li>Fixed a crash when authenticating to websites using SPNEGO on macOS devices with Apple Silicon CPUs (bug 1685427).<\/li>\n<li>Avoid printing an extra blank page at the end of some documents (bug 1689789).<\/li>\n<li>Fixed a browser crash in case of unexpected Cache API state (bug 1684838).<\/li>\n<li>Fixed external URL scheme handlers when using the Firefox flatpak (bug 1688966)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Firefox 78.7.1 esr<\/h2>\n<p>An update of Firefox 78.7.1 esr with one year of long-term support has also been provided with the same vulnerability fixed. Firefox 85.0.1 and 78.7.1 ESR can be downloaded from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mozilla.org\/firefox\/all\/#product-desktop-release\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this web page<\/a> (choose the variant from the list boxes displayed).
