It's about servers in a domain environment no longer showing up completely in Explorer in the Network Neighborhood on Windows 10 clients (20H2 and 21H1). The reader has a strange error pattern depending on which environment is used.

German blog reader Markus R. contacted me by mail and described a strange error pattern that has not yet come to my attention. It's about the network environment display in Windows 10 clients going haywire. Markus writes about it:

What I noticed in the last 4 – 6 weeks: under Windows 10 version 20H2 + 21H1, the Windows Explorer window no longer displays the servers that are available in the domain environment at the site.

Servers used: Windows 2012R2 + Windows 2019

However, under Windows 2019 Standard, all servers and Windows 10 clients are shown to me in Windows Explorer.

Within Windows 2012R2 I only see 3 servers from XXX and no Windows 10 clients!

The problem was the last few years already known many times, because of SMB1 protocol enable in Programs and Features and Services function search provider host + function search resource publishing.

Lately, although all settings are set, still servers are not shown to me – although shares are set here from Windows 10 client + Windows 2012R2 server.

The comment about SMB1 protocol probably means the error scenario described in this post and here. However, it excludes this scenario. Markus asks: Has this been announced somewhere by Microsoft or has it already hit them as a new error message? I haven't seen anything about this yet. In a supplementary mail Markus still writes:

Just noticed under Roles and Features for Windows Servers (see images).

Windows 2012R2 has SMB 1.0/cifs file sharing support, as does Windows 2019 Standard.

But only as 1 feature

Here are the two screenshots of the wizard to select features, for Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows Server 2019.

So I'll pass the question on to the readership and ask if you can make sense of it?

[German]Once again, a general question that came to me via a blog reader.
