Microsoft has admitted that after installing certain updates on these Windows Server versions, problems can occur and Defender no longer starts.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/vg08.met.vgwort.de\/na\/26b2b7f4825340c28b2d80dbd5a971e9\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\">Microsoft Defender for Endpoint (<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/microsoft-365\/security\/defender-endpoint\/microsoft-defender-endpoint?view=o365-worldwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">see<\/a>) is Microsoft's enterprise endpoint security platform designed to help administrators of corporate networks prevent, detect, investigate and respond to advanced threats. Previously, the product was known as Defender ATP and must be booked separately. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BleepinComputer\/status\/1463792519666360322\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Defender for Endpoint-Probleme unter Windows Server\" alt=\"Defender for Endpoint-Probleme unter Windows Server\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/wsBelTU.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Via above tweet, I became aware of the issue that Microsoft Defender for Endpoint may have startup issues on Windows Server 2019 or Windows Server 2022.<\/p>\n<h2>Entry in Server 2022 Health Dashboard<\/h2>\n<p>Microsoft has posted a <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/release-health\/status-windows-server-2022#2764msgdesc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">related message<\/a> in the Windows Server 2022 Health Dashboard, but it applies in a similar form to Windows Server 2019.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Microsoft Defender for Endpoint might fail to start or run<\/p>\n<p>After installing <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/help\/5007205\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KB5007205<\/a> or later updates, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint might fail to start or run on devices with a Windows Server Core installation. Note: This issue does not affect Microsoft Defender for Endpoint on Windows 10.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Microsoft specifies Windows Server 2022 and Windows Server 2019 as affected. For Windows Server 2019, however, update <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/help\/5007206\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KB5007206<\/a> or a newer update is responsible for this problem.
