[German<\/a>]Printer manufacturer Canon currently has to deliver toner cartridges without the chips to check whether they are originals from this vendor. The reason is the current chip shortage on the market, which has now also hit this manufacturer. In order for the cartridges to work, Canon has included a manual to trick their own testing that blocks foreign cartridges. Shows how sick this system has become and it's good to see manufacturers now rushing into their own \"DRM trap for customer bully\".<\/p>\n

A lack of semiconductors forces Canon to deliver toner cartridges without \"copy protection\" – this protection was actually only there to annoy customers and to secure their own profits. Because the printer reports a \"counterfeit\" with these chip-less toner cartridges and goes on strike, Canon then had to send out circulars to customers with instructions on how to circumvent the error messages about counterfeit cartridges.<\/p>\n

Due to the ongoing global shortage of semiconductor components, Canon is currently experiencing challenges in procuring specific electronic components that are used in our consumable products for our multifunction printers (MFP). These components perform such functions as detecting remaining toner levels. <\/p>\n

To ensure you enjoy a continuous and reliable supply of consumables, we have chosen to supply consumable products without the semiconductor component until normal supply resumes. <\/p>\n

While there is no negative impact on print quality when using consumables without electronic components, certain ancillary functions, such as the ability to detect toner levels, may be affected.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

It took my shoes off after all – because I was told everywhere that only toner cartridges with chips from the manufacturer ensure that the printers do not suffer any damage. Now Canon admits that there is only customer manipulation behind the chips in the cartridges. The following Canon printer models are affected:<\/p>\n
