Microsoft has released version 2.0 of its administrative templates (.admx files) for Group Policy for Windows &#8211; from Windows 7 up to Windows 10 November 2021 Update (21H2) as of 22 March 2022. Windows 11\/Windows Server 2022 are not supported. The templates allow administrators to manage registry-based policy settings.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vg02.met.vgwort.de\/na\/a898a136ef7e4350b6ef35940bdbe7a3\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>The .msi file containing the administrative templates (.admx files) is available on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=104042\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this Microsoft download page<\/a> and supports the following languages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>cs-CZ Czech &#8211; Czech Republic<\/li>\n<li>da-DK Danish &#8211; Denmark<\/li>\n<li>de-DE German &#8211; Germany<\/li>\n<li>el-GR Greek &#8211; Greece<\/li>\n<li>en-US English &#8211; United States<\/li>\n<li>es-ES Spanish &#8211; Spain<\/li>\n<li>fi-FL Finnish &#8211; Finland<\/li>\n<li>fr-FR French &#8211; France<\/li>\n<li>hu-HU Hungarian &#8211; Hungary<\/li>\n<li>it-IT Italian &#8211; Italy<\/li>\n<li>ja-JP Japanese &#8211; Japan<\/li>\n<li>ko-KR Korean &#8211; Korea<\/li>\n<li>nb-NO Norwegian (Bokm\u00e5l) &#8211; Norway<\/li>\n<li>nl-NL Dutch &#8211; The Netherlands<\/li>\n<li>pl-PL Polish &#8211; Poland<\/li>\n<li>pt-BR Portuguese &#8211; Brazil<\/li>\n<li>pt-PT Portuguese &#8211; Portugal<\/li>\n<li>ru-RU Russian &#8211; Russia<\/li>\n<li>sv-SE Swedish &#8211; Sweden<\/li>\n<li>tr-TR Turkish &#8211; Turkey<\/li>\n<li>zh-CN Chinese &#8211; China<\/li>\n<li>zh-TW Chinese &#8211; Taiwan<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>According to Microsoft, version 2.0 includes another ADMX file called <em>tenantrestrictions.admx<\/em> and changes to some ADMX files.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Administrative Templates (.admx) v2.0 \" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/K6mKtl7.png\" alt=\"Administrative Templates (.admx) v2.0 \" \/><br \/>\nAdministrative Templates (.admx) v2.0<\/p>\n<p>German blog reader David M. sent me the above screenshot of the available ADMX file and wrote: <em>What irritates me: In the original ADMX collection Windows Server 2022 was still listed in the compatibility list &#8211; in v2.0 this entry is missing! Did MS forgot to list Win2022?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>My guess is that missing support for Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 was intentionally. Because Microsoft writes, the templates cover the following Windows versions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Windows 7<\/li>\n<li>Windows 8<\/li>\n<li>Windows 8.1<\/li>\n<li>Windows 10<\/li>\n<li>Windows Server 2008 R2<\/li>\n<li>Windows Server 2012<\/li>\n<li>Windows Server 2012 R2<\/li>\n<li>Windows Server 2016<\/li>\n<li>Windows Server 2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Windows 11 as a client and Windows Server 2022 do not appear in this list of supported operating systems. My first thought on the subject was that there were no changes to the .admx files for these platforms in v2. For Windows 11, the focus is now already on the upcoming version 22H2 &#8211; so it is possible that the templates will be adapted for this release in summer 2022. But I could be wrong. Perhaps there is another reader comment from someone who knows more.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Addendum:<\/strong> David has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.borncity.com\/blog\/2022\/03\/28\/administrative-templates-admx-v2-0-bis-windows-10-november-2021-update-21h2\/#comment-123899\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted<\/a> the download link for admx-files supporting also Windows 11 and Windows Server 2022 &#8211; the file is dated March 9, 20222.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=104003\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Download ADMX<\/a> Windows Server 2022, Release March 9, 2022<br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/details.aspx?id=104005\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Download GPO Reference Spreadsheet<\/a><\/p>\n<p>An there are the template files\u00a0(.admx) for Windows 11 21H2, that can be downloaded from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.microsoft.com\/en-us\/download\/103507?fbclid=IwAR3gHyPtYwDVpv6WHOgeWSx7Zk113fTvdWUrBI313P70mfCTZKOuAs_J34g\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this web site<\/a>.
