I have received a user report and the problem is being discussed on the internet. Are there any others affected?

Message from a reader

Blog reader Robert contacted me by email earlier today and reported problems with the iOS Outlook app. He asked whether I was aware of a fault at Microsoft since "last night" (25.10.2024) regarding the Outlook app (iPhone). I have not heard about such issues.

The reader complains that he has not received any emails via the Outlook app (iPhone) since October 25, 2024, after 11:00 p.m. The iOS app is connected to an Exchange Server 2016 (on-premises only, no hybrid, no Entra, no Exchange Online, no cloud).

Discussion at reddit.com

In a follow-up email, Robert pointed out that there is a similar discussion about the problem on reddit.com in the thread Does anyone having sync issues in outloook mobile app. The thread starter complains that his Outlook app no longer synchronizes on his smartphone. He has tried the usual approaches such as removing and re-adding the account, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing the cache, but to no avail. Nothing works, but the desktop app (presumably for Windows) is fine, he wrote.

In the thread, other users confirm these problems with the iOS Outlook app. One user who also has the problem tried to remove the account from all devices as a solution. But every time he tried this, the app simply crashed, he wrote.

Outlook App Update Build v4.2441.0

I found out on this Microsoft site, that, as of October 23, 2024, Microsoft has updated the Mobile Outlook app to build v4.2441.0. For iOS, it states that when an IRM (Information Rights Managed) file is opened in Outlook Mobile, it is automatically forwarded either to Word, PowerPoint or Excel or to the Microsoft 365 (Office) app that is installed for the file type.

Only general performance improvements and problem fixes are mentioned for the Android version of the app. Based on the date, there is much to suggest that this update of the Mobile Outlook app to build v4.2441.0 is responsible for the problems reported above.

[German]Since October 25, 2024, there seems to be a fault with Microsoft Exchange (on-premises), which means that the Outlook app for iOS no longer performs synchronization.
