Since Windows 10 will no longer be supported in October 2025, many users will only be able to use Windows 11. Could Windows 11 finally see a jump in usage?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Operating system share on all platforms<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vg08.met.vgwort.de\/na\/7d7c376923fe46fdb6d07a4268d62ad2\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>The website statcounter.com has <a href=\"https:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\/os-market-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published the market shares<\/a> of various operating systems (desktop, mobile devices). Android accounted for 45.58% at the end of March 2025 (previous month: 45.49%), a further slight decline. Windows has risen from 25.35% in the previous month to 25.86% market share. Apple has fallen slightly in user favor with 18.08% (previously 18.26%) for iOS, while macOS has fallen to 4.92% (previously 5.32%). Linux has a meagre 1.45% market share (previously 1.38% ). These could be the normal fluctuations of the \"measurement\".<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"statcounter operating system share Dec. 2024\" src=\"https:\/\/i.postimg.cc\/xCcztqgH\/image.png\" alt=\"statcounter operating system share March. 2025\" width=\"640\" height=\"590\" \/>Operating system shares for all platforms at the end of March 2025, source: statcounter<\/p>\n<h2>Desktop operating systems share<\/h2>\n<p>For desktop systems, the website statcounter.com gives the market share of various operating systems for Windows at 71.72% (previous month 70.54%, i.e. a slight increase). macOS is at 13.66% (from 15.77%), while Linux runs on 3.99% (previously 3.82%) of systems. ChromeOS from Google reaches 1.86% (previously 1.80%) of desktop systems.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"statcounter desktop operating system share Jan. 2025\" src=\"https:\/\/i.postimg.cc\/1tn8D25r\/image.png\" alt=\"statcounter desktop operating system share March. 2025\" width=\"640\" height=\"520\" \/>(OS Market Share 3.2025)<\/p>\n<p>The list of <a href=\"https:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\/os-version-market-share\/windows\/desktop\/worldwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Windows operating system shares on the desktop<\/a> then shows this picture: Windows 10 comes in at 54.23% (previous month 58.83%) and has dropped significantly, while Windows 11 has improved to 42.66% (previously 38%). People seem to be switching from Windows 10 to Windows 11 after all. Windows 7 is still running on 2.22% (previously 2.3%) of systems, while Windows 8.1 hardly plays a role at 0.28%.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"Windows market share 1.2025\" src=\"https:\/\/i.postimg.cc\/sXh2MWwn\/image.png\" alt=\"Windows market share 3.2025\" width=\"640\" height=\"600\" \/><br \/>\nWindows share 3.2025<\/p>\n<p>Windows 10 is still number one on desktop systems and is likely to remain so in the coming months.<\/p>\n<h2>Browser: Chrome kills everything<\/h2>\n<p>It was interesting for me to take a look at the browser distribution on<a href=\"https:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\/browser-market-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> this Statcounter page<\/a>. The Google Chrome browser is the undisputed leader with a market share of 66.16% (previously 66.29%). Apple's Safari browser comes in at 17.62% (previously 18.01%), which means it is falling, while Microsoft's Edge is languishing at 5.17% (previously 5.33%).
