The new features are coming in a staged rollout with the preview update KB5055627 for Windows 11 24H2, whereby the features are to be reserved for Copilot+ PCs systems.

Windows 11 24H2 Preview Update KB5055627

On April 25, 2025, Microsoft released the optional cumulative (preview) update KB5055627 for Windows 11 24H2. I have compiled some information about this update in the blog post Windows 10/11: Preview Updates April 22 and 25, 2025. Among other things, the AI functions around Recall are mentioned there.

Microsoft announces Recall availability

In the following tweet, Microsoft announces the immediate availability of AI functions such as Recall, Click to Do and Windows Search for Copilot+ PCs.

In the article Copilot+ PCs are the most performant Windows PCs ever built, now with more AI features that empower you every day, you can read about what "great boxes" Copilot+ PCs actually are. The support article for KB5055627 lists which new features will be available for Copilot+ PCs via the optional Non-Security Preview Update for Windows 11 24H2 from April 2025.

Recall (Preview)

When users on a Copilot+ PC work on documents or presentations all day, take video calls and switch between different activities, Recall regularly creates snapshots. Recall is then designed to help you find things more quickly and easily. If you want to find something or return to something you've done before, you should open Recall and authenticate yourself with Windows Hello.

Once you have found what you are looking for, you can reopen the application, website or document or react to an image or text in the found snapshot with Click to Do. For more information, see Retrace your steps with Recall.

With the AI capabilities of Copilot+ PCs, it is now possible to quickly find and recall any application, website, image or document by users describing the content. To use Recall, users must choose to save snapshots, i.e. images of their activities. In addition, a Windows Hello login is required to confirm presence. This is to ensure that only the user themselves can access the snapshots. Users always have control over which snapshots are saved and can interrupt the saving of snapshots at any time.

Click to Do (Preview)

The preview version of Click to Do is designed to make it easier than ever to complete tasks on the Copilot+ PC screen immediately. For example, when users select an image with Click to Do, actions such as deleting objects with the Photos app or removing the background with Paint can be performed.

To use Click to Do, simply press the Windows key + mouse click or the Windows key + Q. Users can also make entries via the "Snipping Tool" menu and the print screen or search for "Click to Do" in the search field on the Windows taskbar. Further information can be found at Click to Do: do more with what's on your screen.

On Snapdragon-powered Copilot+ PCs, Click to Do includes intelligent text actions. You can select a block of text and then drag to select the desired text. Options are displayed to summarize or paraphrase the text. These text actions utilize the capabilities of Phi Silica, he local Small Language Model (SLM) built into Windows.

IT administrators can get details on how to manage the feature using group policies at Manage Click to Do.

Improved Windows search

Microsoft also claims to have improved the search function. Finding documents, photos and settings is easier in Windows 11 on Copilot+ PCs thanks to the improved Windows search, which is based on semantic indexing models in addition to traditional lexical indexing. Whether in the file explorer, in the Windows search on the taskbar or in the settings – you only have to enter something you want to search for to find it on the Copilot+ PC. Users no longer have to remember file names, exact words in file contents or names of settings.

Searching for settings such as "Change my theme" will initially work in the "Settings" app. Thanks to the performance of the 40+ TOPS NPU on Copilot+ PCs, this should also work locally without an internet connection. Further information can be found under Searching indexing in Windows.

Finding photos stored in the cloud on Copilot+ PCs is also set to become even easier.  Users can enter their own terms in the search field in the top right-hand corner of the file explorer, e.g. "summer picnic". In addition to the photos stored locally on your Copilot+ PC, photos from the cloud will be displayed together in the search results.

Exact matches to keywords in the text of the cloud files are also displayed in the search results. Users can try out this experience immediately with their personal OneDrive. The prerequisite is that you are logged in with your Microsoft account and connected to the Internet. This is now available on AMD- and Intel-based Copilot+ PCs.

Gradual rollout

The features are available for Copilot+ PCs via the optional Non-Security Preview Update for Windows 11 24H2 from April 2025. Over the next month, Microsoft plans to make these new features available to consumers in stages via a controlled feature rollout (CFR).

The Recall function has been highly controversial since its introduction, as it can record everything the user does on the device. Microsoft had to withdraw and revise Recall. Now the attempt is being made to roll out this function on suitable systems.

Similar articles:
Copilot+AI: Recall, a security disaster – AI-assisted theft
Microsoft improves AI feature Recall and adds "security measures" – is that enough?
Windows 11 Copilot+PC will be released without recall
Windows 11: Recall to get a second chance, coming in October 2024 as a preview for Insiders
Windows 11 24H2: Update KB5041865 ships Recall
Microsoft explains Windows 11 Recall in a revised version
Microsoft's AI PC with Copilot – some thoughts – Part 1
Windows 11 24H2: Recall can't be uninstalled; and "poor mans recall" found
Windows 11: Recall is delayed …
Recall is back for Windows Insiders on Copilot+PCs
Windows 10/11: Copilot as a native app for Windows Insiders
Windows: Microsoft's "improved" Recall continues to record sensitive information

[German]Microsoft has begun rolling out its controversial Recall function and other features in stages on April 25, 2025.
