This is being sold as "exciting news" about being able to grow with the company. At the moment, I can't really tell what the catch is for existing customers. I'll pass on the information I received from a reader here in the blog.

In 2023, I had already reported on license problems with the remote maintenance software in the German blog post Leidiges Thema AnyDesk, die Lizenzen und deren 7.1-Client … . A reader had drawn my attention to the issue. They changed the license conditions, as a result, AnyDesk licenses got a price hike.

German blog reader Harald S. sent me an email with the subject line "AnyDesk now also wants to change the licenses for existing customers" and informed me of a new change to licenses. He had just received an email from AnyDesk with information on license changes.

On the German web site (shown in the screenshot above), which was linked in the email, I see that AnyDesk is discontinuing the old licensing model. The updated licensing model is being sold as "exciting news". It has been designed to allow companies to grow with them, they say. It is designed to ensure that users have the flexibility and tools to grow seamlessly while keeping up with the latest developments.

Reads like marketing talk to me – only in the detail pages does the interested reader learn what the switch to my.anydeskII means. The new licenses are based on the number of connections that users need and no longer, as before, on the number of users in the existing license.

As a bonus, users can now "flexibly choose" how many simultaneous connections are required in the license – i.e. connections to target devices that take place at the same time are counted. The new license model is ideal for dynamic teams, shift work or shared devices and offers a cost-effective, scalable solution, says AnyDesk.

Further advantages of switching to my.anydeskII are advertised on the details page. I remember that the provider AnyDesk was bought by financial investors, and my old German blog post Leidiges Thema AnyDesk, die Lizenzen und deren 7.1-Client … talked already about license problems with the AnyDesk remote maintenance software in 2023.

Articles:
AnyDesk confirmed, they have been hacked in January 2024, Production systems affected – Part 1
AnyDesk hack undercover – more information and thoughts – Part 2
AnyDesk hack undercover – Suspicious cases and more – Part 3
AnyDesk hack undercover – Access data offered for sale – Part 4
AnyDesk hack – A review – Part 5
AnyDesk hack – Review of the German CERT BSI report – Part 6
AnyDesk hack – Notes on exchanging certificates for Customs clients 7.x – Part 7
AnyDesk hack – more details (FAQ from Feb. 5, 2024) – Part 8
AnyDesk hack already noticed on December 20, 2023? – Part 9
AnyDesk hack confirmed as of December 2023; old certificate recalled – Part 10
AnyDesk hack: Revoke chaos with old certificates? – Part 11
AnyDesk hack: Newly signed clients available; what are your experiences? – Part 12

Microsoft Defender blocks Anydesk clients (since 28 February 2024)
AnyDesk: They have signed the client with an old certificate (April 24, 2024)

[German]The vendor of remote maintenance software, AnyDesk, now also wants to convert existing customers to an "updated license model" when the old licenses expire.
