Operating system distribution across all platforms<\/h2>\n

At the end of August 2025, Android reached 44.44%\u2014a slight increase after a crash. Windows fell to 27.45%, and iOS also declined slightly in user popularity to 15.94%, while OS X remained virtually unchanged at 3.42% and macOS at 1.88%. For desktop systems, the website statcounter.com lists the market shares<\/a> of various operating systems as follows: Windows with 69.75% (slight decline), OS X with 8.69%, macOS with 4.79%, and Linux with 3.39%.<\/p>\n

Not much has changed\u2014only the share of unknown operating systems on desktops has risen slightly.<\/p>\n

Windows operating system shares<\/h2>\n

The list of Windows operating system shares on the desktop<\/a> paints a strange picture: compared to the previous month, Windows 11 has lost share and Windows 10 has gained. The figures for the previous month are likely to have been incorrect. Windows 11 has a share of 49.02%, while Windows 10 is almost on par with 45.65%.<\/p>\n

You can now juggle the figures and apply them to North America or Europe. I am amazed that Windows 7 still has a 3.45% share.<\/p>\n

Linux is turning 34 these days, as you can read here<\/a> at neowin.net, for example. On August 25, 1991, 21-year-old Linus Torvalds announced that he was developing a \"free operating system,\" which became today's Linux. I recently came across the article Network scans find Linux is growing on business desktops, laptops<\/a>, which notes growth in the enterprise sector. I found the browser distribution on this Statcounter page<\/a> interesting. The Google Chrome browser is the undisputed leader with a market share of 69.23%.
