With Windows 10 support ending in October 2025, Windows 11 is really the only option for many users. So what exactly do the market shares look like?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Operating system share across all platforms<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/vg06.met.vgwort.de\/na\/3655917d83a84ab98ca07e4aee48a276\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>The website statcounter.com has <a href=\"https:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\/os-market-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published<\/a> the market shares of various operating systems (desktop, mobile devices). At the end of August 2025, Android had a market share of 43.32%\u2014a slight decline from the previous month. Windows rose to 30.28% (27.45%), while iOS also fell slightly in user popularity to 14.55% (15.94%). OS X remained virtually unchanged at 3.28% (3.42%) and macOS at 1.882% (1.88%). OS X stands at 7.84% (8.69%), macOS is reported at 4.37% (4.79%), while Linux comes in at 3.17% (3.39%).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone\" title=\"statcounter desktop operating system share \" src=\"https:\/\/i.postimg.cc\/Y2Yf8LCx\/image.png\" alt=\"statcounter desktop operating system share 9. 2025\" width=\"640\" height=\"539\" \/>(OS Market Share 9.2025)<\/p>\n<p>Not much has changed\u2014only the share of unknown operating systems on desktops has risen slightly.<\/p>\n<h2>Operating system shares of Windows<\/h2>\n<p>The list of <a href=\"https:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\/os-version-market-share\/windows\/desktop\/worldwide\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Windows operating system shares on the desktop<\/a> paints an interesting picture: Compared to the previous month, Windows 11 has not really gained any market share, and Windows 10 has continued to decline. Windows 11 stands at 49.05% (49.02%), while Windows 10 is almost unchanged at 40.88% (45.65%). I am amazed that Windows 10 still has a 40.48% share and Windows 7 has even risen to 9.15%. With another year of ESU support for private users, Windows 10 will continue to retain market share.<\/p>\n<h2>Browsers: Chrome dominates<\/h2>\n<p>I found the browser share on<a href=\"https:\/\/gs.statcounter.com\/browser-market-share\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> this Statcounter page<\/a> interesting. The Google Chrome browser is the undisputed leader with a market share of 71.77%. Apple's Safari browser has 13.9%, while Microsoft's Edge is languishing at 4.67%.
