Here are a few hints.

It's hard to believe, that this issue still happens to users. Since years, Microsoft and also MVPs or Microsoft Anwers support engineers gave strong advices how to prepare a system before running a Windows upgrade. One major issue is: uninstall your anti virus software (third party and also Microsoft Security Essentials, if installed on current Windows). In case of a third party security software, it is also recommended to execute a "clean tool", offered by many AV vendors, to remove all remaining registry entries left from the security program.

The error 0x8007002C-0x4000D

Upgrade gets 62% through "few more things" before setup stalls and the error message appears:

We couldn't install Windows 10
Error 0x8007002C–0x4000D
The Installation failed in the SECOND_BOOT phase with an error during MIGRATE_DATA

The machine has rebooted, but during migrating data, setup does a rollback to previous Windows. The reason: A file required isn't found – in my opinion: because antivirus filter drivers, USB drivers or other system tools blocks disk access.

And the winner is? Antivirus-Software

First I got a hint from my German buddy Michael Bormann, who found this issue on a customers system. Investigating the log files showed, that Commodo Internet Security suite was the show stopper. Then I've done a web research and found several other cases. Within this Microsoft Answers forum thread, somebody was able to upgrade 4 systems, after he uninstalled the antivirus software. Also this MS Answers forum tread shows AVAST as a show stopper. Also other AntiVirus/AntiMalware or Firewall security software my be the root cause for this error.

Also I've seen a case, where file protection software (provided by several vendors) are causing that install issue. If that isn't the case, my MVP colleague Andre Da Costa has addressed this error within this US MS Answers-Wiki (German edition Windows 10: Installations- und Upgrade-Troubleshooting). He recommend to uninstall USB devices and do a clean boot (see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135).

Here somebody has emptied Update cache to fix the error in Windows 10 Technical Preview.

If that doesn't help – try a log file analysis

If the hints given above doesn't help, try to analyze the log files created during setup. All log files are collected in hidden folders:

$Windows.~BT\\sources\\Panther
$Windows.~BT\\sources\\Rollback

Folder Panther contains *.log files, whilst folder Rollback contains *.txt files. Just copy these *.log files via explorer to desktop and open it in Windows editor notepad. Then search for the error code. In some cases, some additional hints may be found.

Further reading:
Win10 Wiki
Cumulative Windows 10 Update KB3081424 fails to install (Fix)
Is EaseUS Partition Master 10.5 a Windows10 upgrade killer?
Windows 10: Dropping App Store Error 0x803F7003

Windows 10: Upgrade error 80240020
Windows 10: Upgrade error 0x80200013
Windows 10: Upgrade error 0xC1900101 – 0x20004

If the upgrade from a Windows 7/Windows 8.1 machine to Windows 10 stalls with error 0x8007002C-0x4000D, it seems, that the user has caused this flaw.
