LTE surf sticks like the Huawei E3372 or the Huawei E3372h-153, the Huawei E5573 etc. don't work anymore.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Windows 10 V1709 kills modem connection<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/ssl-vg03.met.vgwort.de\/na\/a111c890b72147d3bfcf7564c530e15b\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\">German blog reader Thomas B. has informed me about this issue via e-mail. Thomas wrote:  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>In Win10 there is an issue that has somehow remained unnoticed so far, although there are probably a lot of people who might be affected: since the Creators update, HUAWEI Surfsticks (e. g. the E3372h-153) don't work anymore, or only if you manually change the adapter settings (what hardly anyone knows and what a normal user can't do or doesn't dare to do).<\/p>\n<p>MS had promised a fix&nbsp; in November and allegedly delivered it with the cumulative update of 30.11.2017, but the issued hasn't been fixed. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>At Microsoft Answers forum there is <a href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/forum\/windows_10-networking\/modem-dongle-not-working-on-windows-10-fall\/913eaf82-d0aa-4a86-bd1d-2a146adc2924?auth=1\">this thread<\/a>, dealing with the same issue. On October 23, 2017 a user wrote:  <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Modem Dongle not Working On Windows 10 Fall Creators Update  <\/p>\n<p>When I upgraded to 1709 (16299.19) I couldn't get my Huawei E3372 Modem to connect!  <\/p>\n<p>Before the upgrade I had no problem and with no drivers it could connect to the internet.  <\/p>\n<p>I have done everything that I think of, Unfortunately NO LUCK!  <\/p>\n<p>What is the solution?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Another user pointed out, that the issue shall be fixed by the November 2017 update, but that hasn't worked.&nbsp; One proposal is a downgrade to Windows 10 version 1703.  <\/p>\n<h2>A workaround<\/h2>\n<p>Some affected user provided a workout posted by Huawei. The surf stick has a fixed IP address used to communicate with Windows 10. Obviously Windows 10 V1709 doesn't manage to connect to the DHCP server provided by the surf stick's firmware, to receive an IP address. The workaround consists of assigning a static IP address for the adapter and set the required communication parameters. First determine the IP address used by the modem (should be visible of the sticker.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IP-Adresse\" alt=\"IP-Adresse\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/YmOkDm2.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Then assign the static IP address obtained from the stick to the network adapter of the surf stick. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"IP address settings\" alt=\"IP address settings\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/0lJcd24.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>1. Right click the network icon in task bar and select the context menu command to go to <em>Network- and Internet settings<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>2. In <em>Networkconnection <\/em>window double click <em>Local Area connection x<\/em><em>.<\/em>  <\/p>\n<p>3. Click in property window of the network adapter <em>Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP\/IPv4) <\/em>and then the button <em>Properties<\/em>.  <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Netzwerkprotokoll Eigenschaften\" alt=\"Netzwerkprotokoll Eigenschaften\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/HG2koia.jpg\">  <\/p>\n<p>4. Enter the static IP addresses shown above into the property window.  <\/p>\n<p>Here are the values for \"Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device\":  <\/p>\n<p>IP-Address: 192.168.1.100<br \/>Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0<br \/>Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1  <\/p>\n<p>As DNS server you may also use Google's 8.8.8.8 (see this <a href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/forum\/windows_10-networking\/modem-dongle-not-working-on-windows-10-fall\/913eaf82-d0aa-4a86-bd1d-2a146adc2924?auth=1\">thread<\/a>).
