Now a new bug let the upgrade wizard fail due to a <em>api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-1-1. dll<\/em>. Here is a fix.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ssl-vg03.met.vgwort.de\/na\/adc3da3dbacf4e3498a3dfb2ffaadb44\" alt=\"\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\" \/>The Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant allows you to upgrade a Windows 7\/8.1 installation to Windows 10 and is described <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/help\/3159635\/windows-10-update-assistant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here at Microsoft<\/a>. This possibility of a (free) upgrade should expire on 31.12.2017. Now blog reader Karl has reported a new problem with Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>There is a brand-new[ error] in the Windows 10 upgrade assistant which is officially terminates on 31.12.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Windows 10 Upgrade App-Fehler\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/57iVZyH.jpg\" alt=\"Windows 10 Upgrade App-Fehler\" \/><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Took me a few hours to find the solution. At the beginning of December the wizard still works. Now since mid-December the assistant stalls with an error. Also the Assistant's GUI is now mixed between English and German.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-1-1.dll missing<\/h2>\n<p>Searching the web for 'api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-1-1.dll is missing' results in several hits from mid of December 2017. At Microsoft Answers there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/answers.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/forum\/windows_7-start\/api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-1-1ddl-is-missing\/41d2a662-b9a4-4ae8-a511-71a72add4bd6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">thread<\/a> from December 19, 2017, dealing with this issue:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>the program can't start because api-ms-win-core-libraryloader-l1-1-1.ddl is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>There are a number of people reporting the same problem. The Upgrade Assistant has not been in working since mid-December 2017. At reddit.com, someone posted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reddit.com\/r\/windows\/comments\/7kwqqd\/so_how_to_fix_the\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a solution<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>1. Terminate the Windows 10 Upgrade Assistant (close the error dialog).<\/p>\n<p>2. Open file explorer and go to folder <em>C:\\Windows\\System32\\<\/em> and right click the file <em>wimgapi.dll<\/em> and select the context menu command <em>Copy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>3. Then navigate in Explorer to the folder <em>C:\\Windows10Upgrade\\<\/em> and paste the file (right click in folder without selecting any files and select the context menu command <em>Paste<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Choose to overwrite the existing file on the option box that pops up.
