I will provide more details in separate blog posts (there are side effects and risks). Furthermore, I would like to point out that I haven't received any updates on my machines with Windows 10 Fall Creators Update or Windows 7 SP 1.

Microsoft Security Update Summary January 3, 2018

Below you will find an overview of products that shall receive updates. Details should be available in the Security Update Guide (but currently nothing is displayed there for the 01/03/2018). Here is the link to the Release Notes (which doesn't provides details).

Critical Security Updates

Microsoft Edge
Internet Explorer 9
Internet Explorer 11
Windows 7 for 32-bit Systems Service Pack 1
Windows 7 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1
Windows 8.1 for 32-bit systems
Windows 8.1 for x64-based systems
Windows Server 2008 for 32-bit Systems Service Pack 2
Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-Based Systems Service Pack 2
Windows Server 2008 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 2
Windows Server 2008 R2 for Itanium-Based Systems Service Pack 1
Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1
Windows Server 2012
Windows Server 2012 R2
Windows 10 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 for x64-based Systems
Windows 10 Version 1511 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems
Windows 10 Version 1607 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems
Windows 10 Version 1703 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems
Windows 10 Version 1709 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems
Windows Server 2016

Important Security Updates

Windows 7 for 32-bit Systems Service Pack 1
Windows 7 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1
Windows 8.1 for 32-bit systems
Windows 8.1 for x64-based systems
Windows Server 2008 for 32-bit Systems Service Pack 2
Windows Server 2008 for 32-bit Systems Service Pack 2 (Server Core installation)
Windows Server 2008 for Itanium-Based Systems Service Pack 2
Windows Server 2008 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 2
Windows Server 2008 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 2 (Server Core installation)
Windows Server 2008 R2 for Itanium-Based Systems Service Pack 1
Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1
Windows Server 2008 R2 for x64-based Systems Service Pack 1 (Server Core installation)
Windows Server 2012
Windows Server 2012 (Server Core installation)
Windows Server 2012 R2
Windows Server 2012 R2 (Server Core installation)
Windows 10 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 for x64-based Systems
Windows 10 Version 1511 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems
Windows 10 Version 1607 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems
Windows 10 Version 1703 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 Version 1703 for x64-based Systems
Windows 10 Version 1709 for 32-bit Systems
Windows 10 Version 1709 for x64-based Systems
Windows Server 2016
Windows Server 2016 (Server Core installation)
Windows Server, version 1709 (Server Core Installation)

Moderate Security Updates

Internet Explorer 10

Final question: Have any of you received updates yet? For Windows 10 version 1709 this should be KB4056892, while Windows 10 V1703 receives the update KB405689. For Windows 1607, however, update KB4056890 is offered.

Warning: Currently all this seems to be made with a' hot needle'. Not every system will receive these updates via Windows Update. I guess, Microsoft will roll out updates in waves to monitor the effect. I therefore my advise (is currently) not to download and install those patches manually.

Similar articles:
Design flaw in Intel CPUs set operating systems at risk
Microsoft releases Windows 10 Patch to fix Intel Bug
Critical Updates for Windows and Browser (01/03/2018)
Windows 10: Critical Updates (01/03/2018)
Critical Security Updates for Windows 7/8.1/Server (01/03/2018)

Windows 10 V1709: Issues with Update KB4054517

[German]On January 3, 2018, Microsoft released critical updates for its supported Windows versions as well as for the browsers Edge and Internet Explorer.
