However, since Microsoft distributed security updates for Windows in January 2018, there is the problem that the EPLAN programs no longer starts. Also German blog reader Lydia left this comment, addressing this issue. There is also a German forum thread proposing to uninstall the following updates

Windows 7 Hotfix KB4056897
Windows 8 und 8.1 Hotfix KB4056898
Windows 10 Systeme Version 1703 Hotfix KB4056891
Windows 10 Systeme Version 1709 Hotfix KB4056892

Yesterday I found this German EPLAN page with further details. The developers wrote:

The installation of Microsoft's "January Patch-Day" updates currently means that some EPLAN products cannot be started afterwards. This applies to all products that use the EPLAN License Manager or EPLAN Licence Client. By temporarily uninstalling the patch, however, it is usually possible to correct the above-mentioned situation at short notice, i. e. the EPLAN products can be restarted.

The document lists the following updates, that need to be uninstalled to fix the issue.

Windows 10 1709 (KB4056892)

Windows 10 1703 (KB4056891)

Windows 8.1 (KB4056898)

Windows 7 (KB4056897)

Windows Server 2016 1709 (KB4056892)

Windows Server 2012 (KB4056899)

So far, the only thing that remains is to uninstall the relevant updates in order to be able to continue using EPLAN. These updates were suspended by Microsoft because of boot problems on AMD systems anyway. Whether the revised updates harmonize with EPLAN is beyond my knowledge.

Addendum: Revised updates fixes the issue

Within my German blog I got the notification, that Microsoft's revised cumulative Updates for Windows 10 fixes this issue.

Windows 10 1607 KB4057142
Windows 10 1703 KB4057144
Windows 10 1709 KB4073290

Maybe it's helpful.

[German]After installing January 2018 update for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, the EPLAN program no longer works.
