In a <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.intel.com\/news\/latest-intel-security-news-updated-firmware-available\/\" target=\"_blank\">note to the press<\/a> Intel announced, that:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>production microcode updates to our OEM customers and partners for Kaby Lake- and Coffee Lake-based platforms, plus additional Skylake-based platforms. This represents our 6<sup>th<\/sup>, 7<sup>th<\/sup> and 8<sup>th<\/sup> Generation Intel\u00ae Core\u2122 product lines as well as our latest Intel\u00ae Core\u2122 X-series processor family. It also includes our recently announced Intel\u00ae Xeon\u00ae Scalable and Intel\u00ae Xeon\u00ae D processors for data center systems. <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>OEMs must integrate the updates into their UEFI versions. For Linux, Intel's microcode updates (in the Linux Processor Microcode Data File) do not seem to have been made available yet.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" title=\"Mainboard\" alt=\"Mainboard\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/bsYodMo.jpg\" width=\"618\" height=\"412\"><br \/>(Source: Pexels <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pexels.com\/u\/fancycrave-60738\/\">Fancycrave<\/a> CC0 License)  <\/p>\n<h2>Intel released some details<\/h2>\n<p>In a 14 pages <a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.intel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/11\/2018\/02\/microcode-update-guidance.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Microcode Revision Guidance<\/a> (PDF), dated February 20, 2018 Intel has published a list of pending and released updates. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Intel Microcode-Updates\" alt=\"Intel Microcode-Updates\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/9Qcz5Qh.jpg\"><br \/>(Source: Intel)<\/p>\n<p>The document shows that the Coffee Lake H\/S variants (8th generation), Gemini Lake (and some special processors) have been updated with microcode updates..<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Intel Microcode-Updates\" alt=\"Intel Microcode-Updates\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/t7fyNSI.jpg\"><br \/>(Source: Intel)<\/p>\n<p>The above table shows that 7th generation Kaby Lake CPUs (H\/S\/X\/G, U, Y variants) have also been updated. And various Skylake CPUs (6th generation) have also been provided with microcode updates according to the following illustration. <\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" title=\"Intel Microcode-Updates\" alt=\"Intel Microcode-Updates\" src=\"https:\/\/i.imgur.com\/H2utqyh.jpg\"><br \/>(Source: Intel)<\/p>\n<p>The PDF document shows that further microcode updates are already being tested as beta by OEMs. A release should therefore take place in the coming days and weeks. German news site heise.de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.heise.de\/security\/meldung\/Spectre-Luecke-Updates-fuer-aktuelle-Intel-Prozessoren-auf-dem-Weg-3975043.html\" target=\"_blank\">wrotes<\/a>, that the updates for Skylake processors (Core i-6000), that has been pulled on January 22, 2018 has been released again. These updates are not modified, Intel re-released them after additional tests. Dell EMC, Fujutsu and HP shall provide these microcode updates (from Januar 2018) already. <\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Intel also has a white paper <a href=\"https:\/\/software.intel.com\/sites\/default\/files\/managed\/1d\/46\/Retpoline-A-Branch-Target-Injection-Mitigation.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Retpoline: A Branch Target<\/a> with information on mitigating attacks via Spectre-V2.&nbsp; <\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<h2>Microsoft Surface Pro 3 firmware update<\/h2>\n<p>Microsoft has also released a UEFI firmware update for Surface Pro 3, which is intended to harden the system against the meltdown and spectre attack methods.
