Decoding error code 0xC1900208<\/h2>\n

\"\"According to this Microsoft article<\/a>, the error code 0xC1900208 can be split into the components 0xC190 and 0208. The second partial code 0208 is either a Win32 error code or an NTSTATUS value. I found no value in the Win32 error list – while in NTSTATUS the error code 0xC0000208 appears as STATUS_INVALID_ADDRESS_WILDCARD. It's not exactly what we need.<\/p>\n

At Winaero I found this article<\/a> where a list of Windows 10 setup error codes was compiled. If you go to the sections with error code 0xC1900208 within this document, both entries are deal compatibility problems. Either incompatible applications are present or the system has not met the minimum requirements. The following error possibilities remain to be explored and, if necessary, excluded.<\/p>\n

Error 0xC1900208 – 0x4000C<\/h2>\n

If this error code occurs, an incompatible application has been found on the system. These applications must be uninstalled. I have covered this case within my blog post Windows 10 Anniversary Update: inkompatible Apps (VPC)<\/a>, and I discussed, how to identify the app manually.<\/p>\n

Error 0xC1900208 – 1047526904<\/h2>\n

This error means: The system does not meet the minimum requirements for the Windows 10 installation. Usually, incompatible hardware and software components are the cause. The only thing that helps here is to uninstall these components.<\/p>\n

AMD Carrizo A10-8700P CPU<\/h2>\n

On computers with this CPU there are problems (see) and an update\/upgrade aborts with error codes like 0xC1900101 – 0x20017 or 0xc1900208 (see<\/a> and here<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Nero, Avira and incompatible software<\/h2>\n

In many cases, incompatible software that sits deep in the system is the cause of the error code 0xC1900208. In this (German) Microsoft Answers forum post<\/a>, a user reports that an installed Nero has blocked the detection of incompatible software.<\/p>\n

In this reddit.com post<\/a>, it was CheckpointVPN software that blocked the upgrade. In this German article<\/a> and here<\/a> (also German) further applications that are causing this issue are mentioned. If necessary, create an installation USB stick or DVD with the Media Creation Tool and run Setup.exe<\/em> under Windows 10. With a bit of luck, the wizard returns the names of the problematic apps during compatibility checks.<\/p>\n

Clean up autorun entries<\/h2>\n

In this forum post, a user reports that orphaned autorun entries were responsible for error code 0xC1900208. After he cleaned up the autorun entries with the help of the Sysinternal tool AutoRuns, the installation went smoothly.<\/p>\n
