Here are a few insight information beside the official MS KB article and beside the "reflection" of the non information multiple websites trumpets during the day …

Well, the nonsense information first …

Windows 10 Version 1511: Update summary KB3116908Ok, here are the obvious details, nobody need to ask. Windows 10 users are notified from Windows Updates that a new update KB3116908 has been found (released 12/02/2015).

The details page doesn't provide much more information what the update fixes. It states that the update fixes stability and issues.

Microsoft's "details" …

Microsoft already released a KB3116908 description Cumulative update for Windows 10 Version 1511: December 2, 2015 that won't discuss further details:

This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10 Version 1511.
Windows 10 Version 1511 updates are cumulative. Therefore, this package contains all previously-released fixes. If you have installed previous updates, only the new fixes that are contained in this package will be downloaded and installed to your computer.

Because it's a cumulative update, what will be patched depends on the previous system state. And Microsoft recommends that you install any language packs that you need before you install this update. Also a reboot after install is required.

If the update don't arrives

I've seen several users complaining that the update never arrives. There are several issues that prevents systems from updating.

Update KB3116908 requests Windows 10 Version 15111 – people still using build 10240 (Windows 10 RTM), due to upgrade issues, won't see the upgrade.

As far as I know, cumulative update KB3116908 is send out in waves, so it may takes a few hours to arrive.

Ah, and some people are using "privacy tools" like O&O ShutUp10. That may block the update. A good cure is: Reset O&O ShutUp 10 settings and uninstall that tool.

Users of Windows 10 Pro has an option to defer upgrades in Windows Update – Advanced options within the settings app.

BTW: If you ever installed a Pro version on a machine and Windows 10 Home is installed during updates (I've had this situation, and it has also been posted in German MS answers forum), you can upgrade to Pro for free. I've documented it within my German blog post Windows 10 Pro (V1511) erneut auf OEM-Systemen aktivieren. Just use the settings app, go to update & security -> activation and hit GO TO STORE. Then a free upgrade shall be offered (see also my comment here)

What's (inofficially) has to be reported about update KB3116908

Well, the update package is between 133 and 231 megabyte in size (depending, what already has been patched on a target machine). Details what has been fixed, may be obtained within this CSV file. But be warned, the lengthy table just covers all files altered since spring 2015. Update KB3116908 also changes build number reported via winver to 10568.17.

Issues, issues, issues …

Although the update was installed without any problem on my test machine, some users are running in serious issues.

Welcome to driver hell

Some users are facing the "driver hell" which means the update replaces graphics driver and send the machine into a black screen.

Surface Book user techn0pe writes reported issues with energy saving mode at reddit.com "the machine next to me "sleeping" the fan is going nuts and it's hot enough that I could probably turn off the heater".

Another user wrote in a comment of my Google+ post, that the update has broken the USB HID driver for USB-C to DisplayPort adapter on several customer machines. IUf the keyboard still works, it's possible to delete the mouse driver from device manager and install the right driver to fix this issue. The workaround is valid for a reboot, but unplugging the USB device causes the same error. It seems that the issue cumulates on HP machines. Also at reddit.com a user reported USB problems.

Other issues …

One reader of my German blog is facing the Groundhog Day effect – each cumulative Windows 10 update sends his machine into a blue screen loop. But installing the same update manually via download fixes this issue (till the nex update cycle).

Also here somebody reported a permanent boot loop after Windows Update tried to install cumulative update KB3116908.

If Windows Update reports error 0x80070570, resetting update store – as discussed here should help.
