This morning I wrote the blog post Windows 7 SP1/8.1: Update KB3035583 for Windows 10 about another attempt from Microsoft to force Windows 7/8.1 users to upgrade to Windows 10. Then I got some comments from readers of my German blog, mention (here and here), that regedit.exe fails to search the registry in Windows 10 version 1511.

Now German magazine heise.de has published an article with some background information. It seems that registry editor's search get lost in an endless loop, if the search path exceeds a 256 character limit. Accessing a subkey within this path causes regedit search to stall. One of my blog readers proposed registry finder to search the registry. It's just sick! You will be forced to upgrade to Windows 10 and ends using a third party tool to keep things done …

Just another bad news: Windows 10 Version 1511 (Build 10586) comes with a nasty bug, that prevents searching in registry with regedit.exe.

[22,2
188,76
post-648","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-update","category-windows","tag-bug","tag-windows-10
["GET
