Background information on the WSUS sync issue<\/h2>\n

\"\"Administrators who distributes updates for Windows clients and Office in corporate environments via a WSUS may have noticed synchronization issues since September 4, 2018 (Office Patchday). This affected several versions of WSUS on Windows Server 2008 R2 through Windows Server 2016. I've addressed this issue within my blog post Office 2016 September 3, 2018 updates breaks WSUS sync<\/a>. However, not all WSUS servers were affected, as I deduce from feedback on my blog post and other sources. A workaround was to exclude Office 2016 updates from the synchronization.<\/p>\n

Microsoft re-releases Office 2016 updates<\/h2>\n

I received this morning a mail from German blog reader Markus K. (thanks for that) informing me that Microsoft has (re-)released the Office 2016 updates from September 4, 2018 on September 8th. Markus wrote: Somebody at Microsoft seems to recognized the WSUS issues. He got a bunch of Office 2016 September 2018 updates<\/p>\n

However, these are the non-security updates for Office 2016 distributed on September 4, 2018, which Microsoft released on the first Tuesday of the month. These have probably been re-released. Question to the administrators affected by WSUS synchronization problems caused by the Office 2016 updates: Has this bug been fixed?<\/p>\n

Note: Since September 6, 2018 there have been more reports about a WSUS synchronization problem, which I consider to be a separate cause of error. I have mentioned this within my blog post Windows 10: Flash update for Insider and more WSUS issues.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
