The IE Backslash bug<\/h2>\n

\"\"The security updates from February 2019 for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 as well as Windows 10 and their server counterparts caused an error in Internet Explorer 11. I didn't explicitly mention it in the blog, but here<\/a> it was mentioned – Microsoft added the following bug in the Known Issues section for Updates for Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10:<\/p>\n

After installing this update, Internet Explorer may fail to load images with a backslash (\\) in their relative source path.<\/p>\n

Workaround: <\/p>\n

Change the backslash (\\) to a forward slash (\/) in the relative path of the image element. <\/p>\n

Or <\/p>\n

Change the relative path to the full URI path. <\/p>\n

Microsoft is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Of course, it a problem, when someone in a corporate environment is dependent on Internet Explorer 11. <\/p>\n

A fix is ready<\/h2>\n

Woody Leonhard now points out in this article<\/a> that Microsoft has now provided a fix for this bug for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1. On February 19, 2019, Microsoft released the Cumulative update for Internet Explorer: February 19, 2019<\/a> KB4491113, which is intended to fix the problem. <\/p>\n

This cumulative update includes improvements and fixes for Internet Explorer 11 that is running on Windows 8.1 or Windows 7, and resolves the following issue:<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Internet Explorer cannot load images that have a backslash (\\) in their relative sources path.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

If someone is affected, they can install the IE update KB4491113. The update is available for download and manual installation via Microsoft Update Catalog<\/a>. If you have installed language packs, you must reinstall them after applying the update. No restart is required after the update installation.  <\/p>\n
