[German<\/a>]Microsoft has confirmed performance issues with update KB4482887 for Windows 10 version 1809, released March 1, 2019. These are intended to affect various features in Windows 10.  <\/p>\n

\"\"The update was already tested in the Release Preview Ring in February before its general release (see Windows 10 V1809 Update KB4482887 as Release Preview<\/a>). On 1 March 2019 the general release took place – I had reported in the blog post Windows 10 V1809: Update KB4482887 released (03\/01\/2019)<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Backport of Retpoline to V1809<\/h2>\n

This update ships also Retpoline technology for Spectre V2 protection for Windows 10 V1809, which will become the standard for the Windows kernel from Windows 10 V1901. Shortly after the release of this update there were first reports about massive performance losses with this update (e.g. reddit.com<\/a> and AskWoody.com<\/a>). Some users thought that this is related to Retpoline.<\/p>\n

However, this was astonishing with some thought, as the Retpoline technology was disabled by default on clients. Within this reddit.com thread<\/a>, a Microsoft employee named srepaka <\/em>confirms that the performance degradation probably have nothing to do with Retpoline:<\/p>\n

This is likely not related to Retpoline (Spectre mitigation) since it's not enabled for retail users yet.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In addition, Retpoline technology should not cause the performance degradation associated with microcode updates. <\/p>\n

Confirmation of performance issues<\/h2>\n

Now Microsoft has confirmed the performance losses in the KB article 482887<\/a> under the heading know issues.  <\/p>\n

After installing KB4482887, users may notice graphics and mouse performance degradation with desktop gaming when playing certain games (eg: Destiny 2).<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Microsoft is investigating this issue and recommends that those affected uninstall the update. The Redmond based company intends to release a fix with upcoming updates. This could be on March 12, 2019 with update KB4492978 (see Windows 10 V1809: Update KB4492978 (Release Preview Ring)).  <\/p>\n

Error 1309 in MSI and MSP installation<\/h2>\n

In KB482887<\/a> Microsoft confirms another issue. After installing this update, users may receive \"Error 1309\" when installing or uninstalling certain types of MSI and MSP files. Microsoft's lapidary recommendation is to ignore this error. Again, Microsoft wants to provide a fix with upcoming updates. <\/p>\n
