The end of a short excursion in which Google wanted to compete with Facebook.

A Google+ user of the very beginning

I myself was a Google+ user from the very beginning, when access was by invitation only. My idea: to establish a counterweight to Facebook, where I have an account as a blogger. At the beginning it was still quiet, but soon Google+ established itself for me as a contact exchange for tech enthusiasts and as a place where I often found interesting information on IT topics.

Google+ also had a Microsoft group with almost 200,000 members. However, the group suffered from SPAM at the end. I got a moderator role (I guess from Microsoft), but ended, that I couldn't see my own posts in the group anymore (I just could delete SPAM). After a complaint on my part the role of administrator was gone again sometime – and I had access to my posts again. Something was wrong with the role assignment on Google+.

After Google noticed security issues within social network, the gigant announced the end of Google+ for August 2019. Later, the end was set to April 2019.

I have moved to Mewe.com

Last year I asked myself the question, what are you doing now? With Facebook, Xing and Twitter, I do have social media channels. But I've decided to create another account on the social network mewe.com. mewe.com is the next generation social network where the content can be safely shared and belongs to the users (not the operator).

I imported my Google+ postings into my mewe profile (but it's difficult to find the content – mewe.com still has its shortcomings). At the same time I created some groups in this social network:

Microsoft (Englisch)
All about Computer Technology (Englisch)

where I posts regulary. I am particularly interested in the Microsoft Group, where are now more than 50 members and each member can post there also contributions. I will see if we can bring the group to 'fly'.

The social network Google+ has been history since yesterday, when public user accounts were deleted on April 2, 2019.
