This upgrade will be shipped in Janauary 2015 (probably). Here a few remarks about this Upgrade Preparation Tool.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I wrote about this propartion tool within my German blog post\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.borncity.com\/blog\/2014\/12\/22\/windows-78-x-upgrade-in-windows-10-januar-build\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Windows 7\/8.x-Upgrade in Windows 10 Januar Build?<\/a>. This tool enables\u00a0Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to receive the next build of Windows 10 Technical Preview via Windows Update. Upgrading a production system to a technical preview isn't a serious thing (or a no go). But, as Microsoft offers an upgrade path for Windows 7\/Windows 8.1 users, I'm sure, many of them will \"hit the cliffs\" of a beta software. Hopefully they will have a system backup and won't hit support forums with questions \"help me to go back to my old Windows\".<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Paul Thurrott and\u00a0Rafael Riviera has drawn a detailled view on the\u00a0Windows 10 Preparation Tool. They documented their findings <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20171026103629\/http:\/\/winsupersite.com:80\/windows-10\/windows-10-preparation-tool-windows-7-windows-81-updated\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. The\u00a0Windows 10 Preparation Tool\u00a0checks for upgrade eligibility.\u00a0Upgrading\u00a0Windows 7 to Windows 10 Technical Preview ist only possibile, if\u00a0Service Pack 1 is present.\u00a0In\u00a0Windows 8.1 Update 1 (<a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/kb\/2919355\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KB2919355<\/a>) is required to upgarde to Windows 10 Technical Preivew. Upgrading to Windows 10 is only available for the following languages: \"en-us\", \"zn-cn\", \"pt-br\", \"en-gb\", \"ja-jp\", \"ru-ru\", \"de-de\", \"fr-fr\", \"ko-kr\", \"it-it\", \"es-es\", \"zh-tw\", \"sv-se\", \"fi-fi\", \"tr-tr\", \"ar-sa\", \"nl-nl\", \"cs-cz\", \"pl-pl\", and \"th-th\".\u00a0Windows 10 Preparation Tool adds the following key into the registry:<\/p>\n<p><em>SOFTWARE\\Microsoft\\Windows\\CurrentVersion\\WindowsUpdate\\<br \/>\nWindowsTechnicalPreview<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A subkey\u00a0<em>Signup<\/em>\u00a0with value\u00a0<em>924EADEB-2472-490D-9203-5D0A1FD5CC73 <\/em>indicates, that Windows is eligible for Updgrade to\u00a0Windows 10 Technical Preview.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Microsoft has begun to offer a Windows 10 Preparation Tool to enable Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 to upgrade to Windows 10 Technical Preview.
