[German<\/a>]A brief information for CCleaner users (I know that some of my blog readers are interested in that stuff). Piriform released an update to CCleaner v5.56.7144 for Windows on April 49 2019.<\/p>\n

I didn't noticed that due to some hosting issues last week. German blog reader DiW\u00dc has thankfully pointet out, that an update has been realesed within this comment<\/a>. <\/p>\n

A word about CCleaner<\/h2>\n

CCleaner is a free tool to clean up Windows \u2013 Wikipedia writes here<\/a> about 'optimization'. Some hints on what is 'cleaned and optimized' can be found at Askvg<\/a>. I would quote CCleaner as a kind of snake oil (not really necessary).  <\/p>\n

What's new in CCleaner 5.56.7144 ?<\/h2>\n

Piriform writes in the release notes<\/a>, that in this version the browser cleaning in Edge and IE improves. The installer has also been revised. Here is the list of new features.  <\/p>\n

Software Updater
– Moved the Software Updater to the second slot in the 'Tools' menu
– Stability improvements
– Improved software identification
– Added new supported software
Browser Cleaning
– Improved IE & Edge cleaning
Bug Fixes
– Fixed an issue where the 'Cookies to Keep' list was not saving correctly
Localisation

Users of the free version of CCleaner must update it manually. The new version of CCleaner Free can be downloaded from this website<\/a>. CCleaner Professional is updated automatically. CCleaner 5.5x runs under Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8.1 and Windows 10. It is also available as an app for Android<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I generally advise against using the tool. Actually these 'cleanups' are superfluous \u2013 Windows can do a lot too. In addition, there is always the danger that something will break. Piriform and CCleaner have also attracted attention in the past through a series of unpleasant stories. You can read the details in the following linked articles.
