The VMware OS Optimization Tool is provided for specific environments (VMware Horizon 7 and VMware Horizon Cloud) to provide operating system optimization recommendations to maximize the efficiency and performance of virtual desktops and RDSH servers. VMware has published this document about this tool.

From the above tweet I took the night that there is now an update of the VMware OS Optimization Tool for June 2, 2020. The goal is to make it easier to re-enable Windows Update on a Windows image that was previously optimized and had disabled it. This process comprises the following four steps:
- Activate: Changes the required registry values, local group policies, and enables the required services.
- Windows Update: Starts the Windows Update process and opens the Windows settings page. You can run the Windows Update process as often as necessary and restart it if necessary before proceeding to the next step.
- Restore: Restores all settings to their original values. This also disables scheduled tasks that are regenerated when Windows Update is run.
- Recommendations: After you upgrade Windows, it is recommended that you run an optimization task and then a final task again.
A completely redesigned interface makes it easier to change settings to customize the unattended response file. Details can be found in this VMware support article.
