Google Play: Play Movies & TV are beeing removed in Mai 2022

Google is continuing its approach of kicking media content out of its Google Play Store. After music, films and TV series should now also be dropped from Google Play and made available under Google TV. This is the result of an announcement by Google.

This Google page states that from May 2022, one will have to use the Google TV app to buy, rent and watch movies and series on Android mobile devices or tablets. Movies & TV will no longer be supported in the Google Play app. This means that the Google Play Store will only be a place to buy apps, games and books.

 Google TV-App

The Google TV app will offer the same functions that Android users have been used to from Google Play Movies & TV.

  • Content purchased on Google Play will continue to be available in the Google TV app.
  • Purchases made on the Google TV app can still be used for family sharing and Google Play points.
  • Play credits and Play gift cards can still be used for purchases in the Google TV app.

In addition, users will still be able to access their wish lists in the Google TV app. Purchases can still be viewed and refunded in Google Play. Wish lists and reviews can be downloaded from takeout.google.com.
