Nearly all major tech companies in the U.S. are holding back on hiring and have largely halted it. Some companies like Snap, Flipboard, etc. are already starting to cut jobs. Facebook's parent Meta had imposed a hiring freeze, plans to cut budgets in most departments, with layoffs expected. According to this Bloomberg report, Intel is also planning to cut thousands of jobs as sales in the PC market weaken to pre-Corona epidemic levels.
Now Ina Fried reports on Axios that layoffs are also being made at Microsoft. Officially, no number is known, but the estimate is that it will probably affect under a thousand jobs worldwide.
